Fly camping at Kicheche

Kicheche Bush Camp now offers escorted walking safaris with overnight stays in a fly-camp in the bush. These excursions are led by one of Kicheche's senior guides and an armed ranger. It is an outstanding opportunity to see the Mara from a completely different perspective and also offers some welcome exercise whilst on safari. You will explore the smaller aspects of savannah life - birds, grasses, and insects - and may even be lucky enough to encounter some larger game en-route.
Upon reaching the fly-camp a welcome bush shower awaits you. This is followed by a cold gin and tonic and dinner under the stars - your musical soiree will include the mantra of the cicadas, the whooping of hyenas, the roar of lions and the keening of jackals. This may either interrupt your star gazing or another course of impossibly good bush cuisine. Retire to your tent in much the same manner that Selous, Hemingway and Rooselvelt would have done. You are awoken at dawn with a piping pot of coffee before a cool morning walk.
The walking will not be strenuous and there will be many intervals at various points of interest. The distance covered will be approximately 5km, taking around 3 hours and the same on return the following morning.
A lightweight fly-camp, staffed by a cook and a camp hand, will be set up in advance of arrival. Small dome tents for 2 pax are equipped with camp beds, bedrolls, chairs and a washstand. Basic bathroom facilities are available (long drop toilet and bush shower). A lightweight mess shelter will be used in the event of rain.
Daily departure is at 1500 hrs. Return the following day at 1000 hrs. Bookings should be made in advance; bookings made whilst at Kicheche will be strictly subject to availability. Each excursion required minimum 2 people and is limited to 6 guests. Walking is available for children aged 12 and above, but ONLY at the discretion of the guide.
