Staying at Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco is a rare opportunity to enjoy Tuscany the way it is meant to be experienced - on a magnificent country estate nestled among rolling hills, sweeping vineyards and centuries-old farmhouses.

The heart of the estate is the borgo, a small hamlet where the historic buildings have been beautifully transformed into 42 very individual luxurious suites that exude traditional Tuscan style and culture. Each suite has been personally styled with handpicked unique pieces of Italian antique furniture and art. Some suites have separate sitting rooms, while others have enormous terraces, all with stunning views of the rolling countryside. In the borgo you will find the reception and concierge service for the whole estate. Room service is served until 11pm.

Also situated in the borgo are the traditional but stylish Osteria La Canonica, offering the atmosphere of an authentic Tuscan Trattoria, a regional menu of seasonal Tuscan favorites, and the elegant Ristorante del Drago, open for dinner, the Michelin-starred restaurant that offers guests epicurean journey through Tuscany's gastronomic culture in warm, intimate ambience. Guests staying at the property can relax by the fabulous outdoor heated stone infinity pool with views over towards the hilltop town of Montalcino or enjoy one of the treatments offered at the beautiful Spa at Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco.

Set in the estate's 5,000 acres are a number of stunningly-located farmhouses. Currently 11 of these have been lovingly restored to become sumptuous yet authentic villas offering unparalleled facilities and amenities. Three of the villas are located in the borgo and the remaining eight villas are spread over the estate (the furthest being 5km away).

For those wishing to be more active, there is a state of the art fitness center, tennis courts and the Tom Weiskopf designed 18 hole private golf course immersed in the heart of the Val d'Orcia. It is a unique Tuscan course hugging every fold and contour to the age-old landscape offering a high degree of enjoyment and satisfaction regardless of skill level. With a country-style club house converted from an ancient estate farmhouse, and breathtaking Tuscan views, Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco is fast building a reputation as one of Europe's most exclusive private golf clubs.

The Estate features miles of picturesque hiking and biking trails (bikes are complimentary) that hug spectacular ridges and meander past streams, waterfalls and hidden historic sites. Handsome Maremma horses, used by traditional Tuscan herdsmen, lead guests through a network of riding trails extending to the far-reaching corners of the property.

A real highlight is Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco's critically acclaimed Winery. It is the fifth largest producer of Tuscany's iconic red wine, Brunello di Montalcino. Not to be missed are the wine tours and the tasting room offering a portfolio of the hotel's exemplary vintages. The Winery also houses the Barriccaia, a wine sanctuary filled with rows of traditional French barrique barrels.

The Val d'Orcia is an undulating landscape known for its enchanting beauty and seductive colors and textures. Deep green in spring and golden in the autumn, this gentle land is famously rich in art and culture. The whole of Tuscany is within easy reach, from the galleries of Florence, to the medieval town of San Gimignano, and from the historic town of Siena to the beaches of the Mediterranean.

Top tip:

If you can time your visit to coincide with Il Palio, you must spend some time in Siena for the build up and see the actual race. A centuries-old tradition, rival parts of the city race their horses bare back around the beautiful Campo.
