Walk along the edge of Australia on this spectacular four-day guided journey through Tasmania’s Tasman National Park. Combining dramatic coastal landscapes and rewarding wilderness walks with fabulous local food and exclusive lodge accommodation, the Three Capes Lodge Walk offers an exceptionally comfortable way to experience one of Tasmania’s most breathtaking corners.
Beginning in Hobart, travel south to the historic Tasman Peninsula before taking to the water for a private boat journey from Stewarts Bay to secluded Denman’s Cove. Views back towards Port Arthur soon give way to the towering dolerite sea cliffs for which this coastline is famous, with the possibility of spotting seals and dolphins along the way. Step ashore into the shallows and begin your adventure with a gentle walk through coastal woodland, past quiet coves and beaches, before climbing to beautifully positioned Crescent Lodge. Perched above Crescent Bay with wonderful views towards Cape Raoul, the lodge provides a welcoming wilderness retreat, complete with hot showers, comfortable private accommodation and a delicious three-course dinner showcasing Tasmanian produce.
The following morning, continue deeper into the national park, climbing Arthurs Peak for sweeping views across the Southern Ocean and the rugged coastline below. White-bellied sea eagles are often seen soaring overhead, while albatross, petrels and gannets frequent the surrounding waters. Follow the trail around Tornado Ridge to Cape Pillar Lodge, your home for the next two nights. Tucked into the landscape, the lodge combines its wonderfully remote setting with plenty of creature comforts, including a relaxation pavilion and the opportunity to enjoy a massage, facial or refreshing plunge bath after a day on the trail.
Day three brings some of the walk’s most memorable scenery. Journey through silver gum forest to Cape Pillar and the immense sea cliffs rising above the Southern Ocean. A side trip to The Blade rewards with extraordinary views across to remote Tasman Island and its lighthouse, seemingly marooned in the ocean beyond. Enjoy lunch overlooking this spectacular coastline before returning to Cape Pillar Lodge, where another wonderful dinner, ocean views and a well-earned evening of relaxation await.
On the final day, the landscape changes once again as the trail passes through lush rainforest and climbs to Mount Fortescue, the highest point on the peninsula. From here, walkers can choose to add the spectacular Cape Hauy side trip or continue towards Fortescue Bay, descending through forest to the beautiful white sands and clear waters below. Kick off your boots, dip your toes – or yourself – into the sea before returning to Hobart and raising a glass to four fabulous days on the trail.
Covering approximately **53 kilometers over four days**, the walk is graded moderate and is suited to travelers with an active level of fitness. Daily distances range from approximately 6 to 18 kilometers, with expert guides accompanying the journey and private eco-lodge accommodation providing a comfortable retreat at the end of each day. It is the only fully guided Three Capes Track experience offering accommodation within the national park.
For travelers who love to explore on foot but appreciate a hot shower, fabulous food and a comfortable bed at the end of the day, this is Tasmania at its best: wild coastlines and fresh sea air, rewarding walks and remarkable views, with thoughtful comforts waiting at the end of the trail.
