White Elephant Village is found on Nantucket island which is 30 miles from mainland Cape Cod and easily accessible by flight or ferry. With its picture postcard main town of cobbled streets and handsome historic homes, glorious beaches, lighthouses, fascinating whaling history (one that inspired Moby Dick no less) and lack of chain stores Nantucket has long been the destination of choice for discerning travellers.
The White Elephant Village arose due to the popularity of its sister hotel, the White Elephant Hotel and the demand for additional top quality accommodation. Just a short walk from the hotel and from Nantucket Town, the Village is made up of a 20 room Inn and 25 Residences with one, two or three bedrooms. The exterior of the buildings which are spread throughout the pretty gardens is classic Nantucket - weathered shingles and white paintwork, but interiors are contemporary and packed with mod-cons.
Each of the 25 Residences features its own unique floor plan, and comes decorated with custom furniture, wool rugs, and artwork-as well as a selection of fabrics inspired by the natural beauty of Nantucket. There are one, two and three bedroom Residences each with a spacious living and dining area which has a pullout sofa that sleeps two comfortably making them appealing to families. The kitchen pantry is equipped with a small number of appliances to prepare a basic breakfast as well as a washer/drier. Guests of the residences and Inn enjoy exclusive use of the lobby for morning coffee and all-day snacks and a concierge service.
Unusual for Nantucket where there are surprisingly few swimming pools, there is also a heated outdoor pool and cabanas, as well as a fitness centre, and complimentary adult bicycles, based on availability.
Although the Village doesn't have its own restaurant, guests receive discounted rates at the Brant Point Grill at the White Elephant hotel which is considered to be one of the premier steak and seafood restaurants in Nantucket and the place for Sunday Brunch on the island (make sure you try their interpretation of corn beef hash). Nantucket Town is a mere block away where you're spoilt for choice with excellent bakeries, cafes and restaurants.
