Estancia Vik

Estancia Vik is a superbly charismatic luxury ranch with the serious wow-factor located inland from the chic small village of Jose Ignacio on Uruguay's Atlantic coast. Excellent hospitality, contemporary design and excellent horse riding.

Jose Ignacio, Uruguay
Estancia Vik
  • Perched on a hilltop surrounded by 4,000 acres of peaceful pampas where horses and cattle roam free, and within a stone’s throw of the beaches, bars and chic boutiques of Jose Ignacio.

  • Take part in one of the many complimentary activities, including biking, kayaking on the lagoon, a game of tennis and a driving range. The stables offer horse-back riding for all levels, and for those feeling brave can try their hand at a spot of polo.

  • Estancia Vik is the epitome of contemporary design with each of the twelve suites individually designed by local Uruguan artists, in parallel to it its Nordic inspired all white architecture

  • Delicious food on offer, hand picked from their kitchen garden and most of the meat reared on the lands surrounding Estancia Vik Jose.

Estancia Vik Jose Ignacio sits on 4,000 acres of rolling countryside near Jose Ignacio in Uruguay, only twenty two kilometres northeast of Punta del Este.

Just twelve vast suites, in a range of styles all individually designed by acclaimed local artists, provide state-of-the-art sleeping quarters, while the modern eclectic style of the rooms in the main house ensure that there is always something of interest. The estancia is filled with funky, contemporary, site-specific artwork also by Uruguayan artists which really enhances guests' experience of a given space. The living room is inspirational with a beautifully painted ceiling and walls dominated by eight enormous semi-precious Uruguayan geodes. Estancia Vik also boasts a fantastic indoor sauna and spa.

Outside a black granite pool and loungers are a great spot for relaxing, and options to experience outdoor living Uruguay-style abound. Polo, horse riding, long walks, surfing and golf are all easily arranged. The dunes and rollers of the Atlantic Ocean are approximately two kilometres away.

One of the highlights of staying here is the monumental parrilla, where huge steaks are grilled to perfection over a fire pit in a graffitied, Nissan-hut inspired room.

Top tip:

I died and went to heaven at Estancia Vik! It really has the wow-factor. Relax and be pampered or go for a fabulous horse ride in the open countryside - views as far as the eye can see! Guests staying here can use the facilities of nearby sister hotel Playa Vik, the best of both worlds!
