This heritage bungalow dating from the days of the British Empire welcomes guests looking to experience the indulgent colonial lifestyle of a bygone era. Full of elegant grandeur with high ceilings, grand piano, plush sofas, and butler service, there’s a colonnaded veranda with lush croquet lawn, swimming pool and tennis court to complete the picture. Although the bungalow is just a 15-minute drive from Kandy, it’s location in the Hanthana Hills offers both a sense of seclusion and fabulous views.
W15 offers guests a choice of nine suites, five of which are in the main house, with the remaining four in the old stable block. Standard amenities include climate control, luxury bedding, flatscreen TV, Wi-Fi, sound system, ceiling fan, minibar, safe, robes, upscale bathing products, hairdryer and tea and coffee making facilities, all within a soothing neutral palette.
The Executive and Bungalow Suites enjoy the same heritage charm as the rest of the main house. Well-appointed, the accommodation is infused with relaxed sophistication and includes oversized beds, a pleasing blend of antique and contemporary furnishings, a cosy lounge or seating area, spacious bathrooms, and private outdoor terrace. Located in the original stable block, the four Stable Suites offer dreamy mountain views but are smaller and less characterful than the Executive and Bungalow Suites.
Offering both Sri Lankan and Western cuisine, mealtimes at W15 are personalised to suit guests. Enjoy exquisite attention to detail, tailor-made menus served whenever required in a choice of locations, whether that’s a high tea picnic on the lawn or traditional Sri Lankan Jaffna-style feast in the dining room. The lounge and veranda make convivial spots for both pre-dinner drinks and a soothing nightcap at the end of the day, and there is a well-stocked cigar box for relaxing before heading off to bed.
The stunning gardens include an infinity pool, croquet lawn and tennis courts (rackets and balls are provided), while inside the main house guests can relax in both the Library and Piano Room. In-room spa treatments can also be booked on request. The estate offers area tours led by friendly naturalists, to learn about the wildlife and visit local tea plantations and factories. Mountain trekking, bird and butterfly watching, meditation and golf are also on offer.
