There is no bad time to go on safari in the Kruger National Park. The experience does, however, change from month to month. In the summer months (October to March), it gets very hot. The verdant vistas are all the more spectacular because of the rains, but this means that the foliage is denser, water is more abundant and game is therefore trickier to see. There are lots of beautiful migratory birds during the summer months. While the daytime temperature in the winter months (May to September) is ideal, it does get a little chilly at night and in the early morning.

A four-night walking safari package is generally recommended, with two nights spent at the base Tanda Tula Safari Camp and two nights in the bush at the remote Machaton Hide. Guests are also invited to visit the research centre of the Save the Elephants Transboundary Research Programme, where the researchers or one of their assistants will introduce you to their world and their incredible work.

As one of the only luxury tented camps on offer in the Great Kruger, Tanda Tula is a haven for guests looking for an authentic safari experience. Whether youre out on game drives, enjoying a walking safari or simply relaxing by the pool, Tanda Tulas dedicated guides and staff will be there to make sure your safari is just to your liking. Make sure to spend one of your nights in the star bed to really experience the best of the magical nights in the Timbavati. In my opinion there is no better way to fall asleep than to the incredible sounds of the surrounding bush.

While not being located in the Sabi Sands with its prolific wildlife population, Tanda Tula still affords a great game viewing experience with excellent guiding. The rooms all overlook a dry riverbed and a attractively decorated with iron bedsteads and draped mosquito nets giving quite a romantic feel. This is a low key camp so there are none of luxury bells and whistles you get in some places but it is very well done and the staff are friendly and warm. Meals are taken in the open-fronted dining and lounge area and there’s a small lawned area with a pool, for relaxing between game drives. Dinners in the boma around the campfire and a nice variation.
4WD Game Drives
Go on private or shared game drives in the world famous Greater Kruger Area, South Africa to see the Big 5 - lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhino - and a host of other animals. The Kruger is also a brilliant spot for birders so pack some binoculars.
Search for leopard in the Sabi Sands
The Sabi Sands is widely regarded as one of the most rewarding regions for spotting leopard in Africa. With good populations and the ability to go on night game-drives which coincides when these big cats are most active, all you need is good timing!
Spend a night in a Treehouse - Lion Sands
Lion Sands offers an experience in the heart of the Sabi Sands that is like no other: the opportunity to spend a night high above the ground in one of their magical treehouse platforms in the bush.
