Anyone planning a visit to Bergen needs to come prepared for rain, for the city averages 260 days a year of the wet stuff. But when the sun shines, this pretty harbour city offers history, superb shopping, some excellent hiking and panoramic views from its choice at the top of the Fløibanen funicular and the Mount Ulriken cable car. Even if the sun gods don't smile, the city has plenty of charm in its coffee shops, Scandi designer stores, organic bakeries and the area around the landscaped lake at Lille Lungegårdsvannet with its five art galleries.

A visit to this region wouldn't be complete without venturing East towards the Flåmsdal valley. Here you will find abundant walks and more challenging hikes as well as the famously beautiful Flåm Railway train which is lauded as one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world. Expect incredible scenery, roaring waterfalls, 20 tunnels and sweeping views to the fjords and mountain tops; once at Myrdal Station you can enjoy delicious homemade pancakes before the journey back!
