If you're visiting Fish River Lodge the best thing to do is avoid the summer, which is extremely hot. Therefore, the best time to visit southern Namibia is in winter (May and September) but bear in mind that the desert regions can be bitterly cold at this time of year. The climate of the southern coast is hospitable from February to May, but quite cool and misty year-round, and particularly windy in August.

Fish River Lodge is a 20 bedroom lodge set within the Canyon Nature Park right on the western edge of the world famous Fish River Canyon, the second largest canyon in the world and the lodge has been designed to make the most of the unparalleled views.
The lodge was designed by Namibian architect Andy Chase and the neutral colour palette and floor to ceiling windows and doors throughout the lodge have clearly been designed to take full advantage of the breathtaking views over the Canyon and down to the Fish River below. The lodge is positioned right on the rim of the canyon and the Nature Park itself covers 450 square kilometres.
There are twenty spacious rooms at the lodge and each one sits right on the crater rim, each room has a private veranda from which guests can relax and enjoy the spectacular sunsets over the canyon. The main area of the lodge has an infinity pool to cool off in during the warmer months and in the cooler evenings, enjoy a delicious dinner by the fire.
Fish River Canyon is the second most visited tourist site in Namibia second only to Etosha National Park. Fish River Lodge offers a totally unique hiking experience trekking 64 kilometres along the western side of the canyon away from the hikers trekking the eastern side of the canyon. For anyone who enjoys the comfort of the lodge over camping there is also a day canyon hike or drive where you can also swim in the permanent rock pools and try and spot kudu, oryx and the elusive mountain zebra
The rooms have been designed to make the most of the views and they each sit on the rim of the eastern side of the canyon and face west and as a result the floor to ceiling glass windows allow for the most spectacular sunsets to be seen from the comfort of your bed. The en suite bathrooms have both an indoor and outdoor shower so you can have a shower with a view!
Children of all ages are welcome at Fish River Lodge however there are no special activities or services available.
The main area has a large infinity pool overlooking the canyon and there is a spacious deck for sunbathing and outdoor dining. A lot of the furniture has been made by local designers and it is a fantastic contrast to the modern design of the lodge.
While Fish River Lodge is the perfect place to come to relax and soak up the incredible views, there are plenty of activities on offer. The five night canyon hike starts from the lodge and involves a 64 kilometre walk through the canyon and camping in a different spot for three of the nights before spending the last night back at the lodge to reflect on your adventure. Other activities include a full day drive into the canyon and either a 15 or 30 kilometre canyon hike. There are also scenic sundowner drives where you can enjoy a drink on the canyon rim as the sun dips down behind the canyon wall.
