Archaeology Tour of Bagan
Join an archaeology expert for the day to unlock Bagan’s remarkable archaeological zone.
See 2000 glittering monuments rising up from the flat, dry landscape, and then focus-in on the stunning Ananda Temple, one of the most celebrated temples in Bagan with its towering Buddha statues and learn about the ancient Tharabar Gate. A short drive away is Upali Thein, a mid-13th-century ordination hall with painted frescoes, also a must-see. Then there’s Shwezigon, one of the oldest, holiest and most impressive monuments of Bagan, with its gilded stupa-shaped pagoda housing Bagan’s largest surviving buddhas. The 12th century Sulamani Temple, southwest of Bagan, is another standout sight, often celebrated as the jewel of the region.
Walking shoes or sandals are a good idea, as even flat trails can have loose rocks.
