Exposed brickwork, Mexican furnishings and playful works of art blend together seamlessly with modern functionality to create a high-end sophisticated atmosphere
The funky rooftop pool with stunning views is a cool place to enjoy some downtime and an expertly crafted margarita and there’s an indulgent spa for those looking to pamper themselves
The hotel has several popular restaurants that celebrate Mexico’s rich cultural history and honour the region’s distinguished culinary traditions, the difficulty lies in deciding which one to visit!
The Banyan Tree Puebla (formerly Hotel Azul Talavera) is a wonderful example of how to fuse historic charm with modern-day design and the conversion of four period buildings into this stylish hotel is triumph of architectural ingenuity and finesse. Striking frescoes, polished tiled floors, stone walls, exposed brickwork, elegant archways and stained-glass windows are enhanced by contemporary Mexican ceramics, Talavera tiles, modern art, period wooden furniture and a sophisticated neutral colour palette with pops of colour used sparingly and to great effect. Just steps away from the main plaza, it makes a fabulous base for exploring this UNESCO-listed city. It is around a two-hour drive from Mexico City to Puebla.
Each of the 78 rooms and suites have been individually designed and furnished to complement any original architectural features. All accommodation is spacious, but the suites include a comfortable living area and interconnecting rooms are available for families. Amenities include air-conditioning, Wi-Fi, state-of-the-art entertainment system with HD channels, safe, minibar and sumptuous en-suite bathroom.
As well as three different dining options, the Banyan Tree Puebla affords a casual rooftop bar and terrace with fantastic city views, also home to the hotel's fabulous swimming pool. This is the perfect spot to come and unwind after exploring Puebla on foot, and on a clear day you’ll be treated to distant views of the surrounding snow-capped volcanoes. There’s a fitness centre for those needing to work off all that food and a sumptuous spa to refresh and rejuvenate. For atmosphere, head to the lounge bar inspired by the 19th century laundry that once ran beneath the building and grab a seat in one of booths tucked into the dramatic archways.
When to visit
It would be a crime to not enjoy every sunset over Puebla during your stay from their rooftop bar. A margarita is the perfect accompaniment to a panorama of volcanos and church steeples.
