Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Mauritius enjoys a typically tropical climate with year-round heat, although the southeast trade winds help it never to feel too muggy. The summer months are from December to April, when it can nevertheless be extremely humid, and the winter, such as it is, runs from May to November, and is cooler and drier.

The best months to visit Mauritius are May to early December. January and February, the peak cyclone months, are best avoided by water-sports enthusiasts and divers. Cyclones rarely hit Mauritius (although Rodrigues has suffered far more regularly than the mainland) but cyclones way out at sea can bring days of squally rain.

Coastal temperatures range between 25°C and 33°C in summer and between 18°C and 24°C in winter. On the plateau it will be some 5°C cooler. The highlands are also the wettest part of the island – it can rain here at any time of year, and even when it’s not raining the area can be cloaked in low-lying cloud. When the winds are at their strongest in July and August it can be blustery on the east coast, though the breeze brings welcome relief in summer.

Apart from the Christmas-New Year peak, Mauritius doesn’t really have high and low seasons. The situation is more dependent on outside factors (such as the French school holidays, which cause a big increase in demand and prices in August).

Mauritius is an ideal golfing destination boasting nine courses throughout the island. Proud home to two of these courses, the Constance Belle Mare Plage is a Mecca for golfers. Non golfers can choose to be active or relax - there is so much else to do!

The two courses at Constance Belle Mare Plage are of an international standard and have hosted the MCB Tour Championship since 2009.

Your seven night stay gives you plenty of brush up on your technique before embarking on the two courses. Why not kick off your week with a coaching session at the Mark Farry Golf Academy where one of four golf pros on the team will be able to coach you on everything from your grip, posture, alignment and ball positioning.

The next day the Links course will be calling. With a par of 72, this should take around 3 hours to play. The terrain features wide open spaces and undulating greens, dotted with pyramids of the volcanic rock that is a natural feature of this part of Mauritius. Water hazards feature on 6 of the holes, and the best is saved for last with the 18th Hole located along the water front with views of the azure waters.

For the next couple of days, you can enjoy some rest days, master your putting on the practice green, or maybe another coaching session with a pro as you prepare yourself for the resorts crowning glory, the Legend Golf Course, home to the Johnnie Walker Classic and the Mauritius Open championship.

Designed in 1994 by the South African champion Hugh Baiocchi, each of the 18 holes is unique with it's own characteristics. Legend is the slightly longer of the two courses at 6,582 yards. The trickiest hole is the fifth, with a par of four and a water hazard to the right of the fairway, but again the signature hole is saved for (almost) last. From the 17th tee, you play over a small inlet onto a tricky green surrounded by sand traps.

If the two challenging courses have not been enough to satisfy your golf fix, then nearby you will find a further three courses; the Gary Player designed course at Le Saint Geran, Ernie Els course at the Four Seasons Golf Club and the Bernhard Langer course on Ile aux Cerfs.
