The Maldives has a tropical climate distinguished by two seasons, or monsoons: the dry northeast monsoon which runs from December to March, and the wet southwestern monsoon from May to November, with more strong winds and rain. April is a transitional period noted for clear water and heat. The temperature remains remarkably consistent at around 30°C.

February to April is the hottest period and resorts are almost all operating at capacity during this period. Mid-December to early January comes at even more of a premium due to Christmas and New Year and prices are even higher. Easter and the Italian holiday week in August also attract peak prices at most resorts.

Storms are more likely from May to November, though it’s still warm, skies can be cloudy and the humidity is higher. This is the low season, with fewer people and lower prices, with the exception of August.

Diving is good year-round, although a basic rule is that life on the reef is more varied and visibility better on the western side of any atoll from May to November and from the eastern side of any atoll December to April.

The surfing season runs from March to October, which is also when resorts tend to be at their cheapest.

After breakfast, head to FLOAT, the resort’s water sports centre for a morning of waterborne fun. Paddle a glass-bottomed kayak, perfect your balance on the paddleboards or enjoy the thrill of tubing and sea bobbing. The resort takes the conservation of the reefs and marine life very seriously and this afternoon you’ll learn about the important work being done to ensure its protection and preservation. Then, as dusk descends, head to the beachside outdoor cinema to watch a movie under the stars. Once ended, let nature’s starry night show entertain and enthral you.

Day 5-8

Dhaalu Atoll, Maldives

Day 5 – Snorkel expedition & sunset dolphin cruise

After lunch, the children head off to Scott Dunn Explorers for more fun with their peers and enjoy an exclusive Explorers Dolphin Cruise to spot and learn about wild dolphins in their natural habitat. Safe in the knowledge the children are both entertained and inspired, parents can indulge in some guilt-free relaxation. Later in the day, there is a sunset dolphin cruise to enjoy together onboard a traditional dhoni Maldivian sailing boat, where the children can educate their parents with their newfound knowledge of dolphin life.
