Antandroy traditional culture

The Antandroy people are a traditionally nomadic group of people found in southern Madagascar, and have some unique traditions and beliefs, particularly regarding burial rituals. They adhere to many fady (taboos) and are well known in Madagascar for their colourful woven fabrics which you'll see if you visit the local market. Their music and dance are particularly interesting to learn more about and witness if you are lucky, with distinctive music using whistles and flutes, box mandolins and other stringed instruments.
