Guatemala is best visited during the months of December to March, when the landscape is still green from the rainy season but the weather is warm and pleasant. April to September is rainy season, temperatures begin to drop and hiking can be difficult because of the terrain. October brings the hurricane season so we would advise to avoid Guatemala during this time. Religious ceremonies and festivals take part at Easter with the Semana Santa and May/June with Corpus Christi, so expect the city to be extremely busy during this time.
For Belize’s best weather, visit between the months of December to April. Expect warm weather and a great deal of sunshine as well as excellent snorkelling opportunities. Avoiding travel between June to October is recommended as daily heavy rainfall is common. Hurricanes are possible between August and October.

Fly to Guatemala City
Antigua Guatemala
The first stop on your authentic itinerary is the picturesque colonial city of Antigua, Guatemala’s former capital that has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With an infectious charm you’ll spend the next few days wandering the cobbled streets with its pastel coloured buildings, exploring ruined churches and convents and perusing boutique shops for fantastic souvenirs such as ornately painted masks.
There’s an excellent array of restaurants and cafés, many of which are hidden away in ornate courtyards with beautifully tended tropical gardens or have rooftops where you can soak up the magnificent view, overshadowed by the three towering volcanoes on the horizon. You’ll also have the chance to visit surrounding rural villages, where the locals still dress in traditional outfits and follow ancient customs or for the more active there are those volcanoes waiting to be climbed!

Lake Atitlan
Transfer to Lake Atitlan stopping at Chichicastenango, an indigenous highland town known for its traditional Maya culture and huge bustling open-air market (held on Thursday and Sunday), where vendors sell and barter local produce, animal stock and handicrafts.
As you continue winding down the road, passing small settlements and agricultural plots of land, you eventually reach the shores of Lake Atitlan where you will be taken aback by its breath-taking scenery. Accessible only by boat, your accommodation for the next few days is a secluded little hideaway on the rocky shores of the lake, offering an unforgettable stay with unparalleled views!
This magnificent region offers the most spellbinding landscape of mountains and softly puffing volcanoes which on a clear day are reflected on the emerald coloured crater lake. As well as enjoying the astonishing scenery you will visit authentic Maya villages on the lake’s fertile shores, which are characterised by their own unique traditions and customs.

Tikal
You will need to board a short flight to reach your final destination in Guatemala (before crossing the border to Belize) and be prepared for a significant change in climate as it’s much more tropical and humid in Tikal!
You'll be staying at the boutique style Las Lagunas jungle lodge, which is perfectly located for guests looking to visit the Mayan civilisation’s most impressive ruins, from Tikal to Uaxactún and Yaxhá.
The property sits within its own enclosed nature reserve, which spans almost 300 acres and plays home to monkeys, jaguars, ocelots and over 250 bird species. Daily boat tours are included in your stay over to Monkey Island, where you can help feed the monkeys!

Mountain Pine Ridge
As you cross over the border you’ll immediately feel the shift between Latin and Caribbean. Your first stop in Belize is the Cayo district, Belize’s premier adventure and eco-activity region. It’s a lush green area interwoven with bubbling rivers, cascading waterfalls and a series of cave networks waiting to be explored. There are also several Mayan temples, still shroud in dense vegetation, many of which only receive a handful or visitors on a daily basis, for you to discover.
Spend three days at the Hidden Valley Lodge, situated in Mountain Pine Ridge National Park and surrounded by a private nature reserve. Lace up your hiking boots, grab your binoculars and don’t forget your camera…with 90 miles of walking and biking trails for you to explore and plenty of activities including kayaking, ziplining caving, there’s lots to keep you busy for the next few days. And after a sweaty day of adventure in the jungle, where better to cool off then at the outdoor pool (tropical rum punch optional).

Orange Walk District, Belizean Jungle, Belize
Your final adventure begins when you board the boat on the New River for the spectacular journey across to the remotely located Lamanai Outpost Lodge. You will notice an abundance of wildlife (crocodiles bathing on the riverbank and birds flying overhead) and beautiful natural scenery as you travel along the calm river. At the halfway point of Shipyard, you may be greeted by the local Mennonite community.
The lodge overlooks a lagoon teeming with flora and fauna and is surrounded by forests, savannahs and vast wetlands all waiting to be explored by foot, boat and kayak. Just moments from the lodge you’ll also find the spectacular Lamanai Mayan ruins, making this the perfect setting to end this wonderful itinerary.
