Offering panoramic views over both Mont Ventoux and the vibrant lavender fields, olive groves and vineyards of the Luberon, Coquillade Provence Resort & Spa is part of a tiny hillside hamlet, dating back to the 11th century.

The vibe is sophisticated and peaceful with the 63 rooms and suites, plus private villa spread across a collection of traditional stone built bastides (country houses). The attractive gardens and terraces allow you to soak up the views from every angle and there is a vast array of activities to enjoy including a spa, cycling centre and yoga room. Guests can dine in one of three fabulous restaurants and bars, which celebrate the best of Provençal produce and Coquillade even has its own renown winery, Aureto.

This Relais & Châteaux resort is a stylish cocktail of contemporary art, curated local antiques and whimsical features such as a 6-foot-tall replica red and white Tintin rocket. The décor is the epitome of elegant minimalism and the accommodation is spacious, with Provençal stone accents, rustic wooden beams, premium white linens, golden hues and handpicked objet d’art.

Along with a private villa, there are 63 rooms and suites housed in a collection of bastides spread over the North and South of the property. Many benefit from outside space, ranging from room terraces and balconies to suites with gardens and swimming pools or whirlpool baths, from which to soak up the breath taking views.

Family Suites sleep up to four and pets are welcome. The Coquillage even runs a VID programme, catering for Very Important Dogs. Couples can enjoy a romantic escape in the Pool Suite with private pool, and outdoor Jacuzzi, while larger families and groups can stay in the 6-bedroom Bastide Les Vallats, a beautiful Provençal villa, sleeping up to 14 guests, with a private pool and spa area, complete with hammam and thermal bath.

Coquillade works with local producers, along with growing its own produce to ensure the three restaurants have access to the very best ingredients. Head to Les Vignes for seasonal dishes from local produce or enjoy the more casual atmosphere of Cipressa, which serves up an Italian menu featuring pasta, pizzas, and puddings. Fine dining is also on the menu and gourmands should head to Avelon for culinary bliss.

For cocktails, pre- and post-dinner drinks or afternoon tea and snacks, Bar Lalique has a convivial vibe and glorious views of the Provençal hills. The hotel has 36 hectares of vineyards and is an award-winning wine producer. Enjoy a guided walk around the vineyards, visit the cellar, learn about wine making techniques and be sure to try the white, rosé, and red Aureto wines.

A highlight of the hotel is the spa, which includes multiple steam rooms, sauna, outdoor whirlpool baths, hot and cold plunge pools, indoor pool and several treatment rooms. Outside, guests can enjoy an Olympic-size pool, a game of tennis or pétanque or there’s an onsite cycling centre with an impressive range of bikes. Unless you are ultra-fit, we’d suggest hiring an electric bike to help cope with the hills.

An ideal base from which to explore Provence, the hotel is around an hour from Marseilles and Avignon. There is a helipad, and the hotel can arrange day trips to Nice or St Tropez, but we’d recommend exploring the enchanting hilltop villages of the area. Roussillon, one of the France’s most beautiful villages is just 5km away.
