At a Glance
Another luxurious retreat for the adventurous from the Tierra portfolio – this time a unique, wooden hotel built on stilts, on a mystical island in a remote corner of Chile!
Each of the stylish guest rooms (and even the bathrooms) enjoy stunning views out across the ocean
Embark on an amazing range of guided excursions, including horse riding, bike riding, trekking, kayaking and cultural visits to the island’s towns and Unceso-listed wooden churches
Hop onboard Tierra’s very own wooden boat (called Williche) for adventures across the archipelago's ocean, channels and fjords
Shelter from the elements at the spa where you'll find a pool, sauna, steam room...and why not treat yourself to a therapeutic massage or cleansing treatment whilst you’re there?
So much fresh air is likely to make you feel peckish, so it’s lucky that the restaurant (with its floor-to-ceiling windows) delivers a punchy menu inspired by locally grown and caught produce. Gourmet picnics also accompany you on the daily excursions, so you won’t go hungry!

Chiloé is a year round destination, but there is likely to be better weather between November and March, when the sun makes an appearance between the rainclouds. Chiloé is a notoriously rainy, foggy place particularly along its pacific coast, something which only adds to the mysticism of the place.

Sitting on the mystical island of Chiloé, this is the perfect spot to explore, unwind, and enjoy the tranquil and unique atmosphere of Rilán peninsula. Built in a way harmonious to its environment, the hotel combines style with comfort and great views.
From every viewpoint in this modern hotel you will have spectacular views of the Rilán peninsula, with its rolling hills and green forests. The 24 rooms, all alike in design (think pale wood with soft furnishings made from local wool), provide a fantastic platform from which to take in the breathtaking landscape. The huge windows let the outdoors in and truly make you feel at one with your surroundings.
The hotel also has a spa, with jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and massage room for guests' enjoyment, as well as loungers for relaxation. Tierra Chiloé offers brilliant excursions and day trips, from trekking, biking and horseback riding to boat trips and cultural activities, the perfect way to explore the magic and diversity of the Island. The hotel has its own boat "Williche" for excursions to the island's fjords and waterways. Guests can visit the UNESCO world heritage churches, and wander through local markets.
The Chiloé archipelago attracts people seeking to immerse themselves in the magical culture of this little-known island. Featuring stunning landscapes and friendly hospitality, Chiloé has a culture deep-rooted in the fishing industry which defines the lives of many of its inhabitants. Indeed, the cuisine at Tierra Chiloé is heavily centred around the local catch, giving guests a tasty sample of the culinary delights of the island. Even the cocktails here have a unique twist, making use of unusual ingredients grown in garden!
All 24 rooms in this lodge have stunning views of the inland sea. The architecture is such that it is designed to feel at one with your surroundings, employing traditional Chiloé craftsmanship with fine woods. Rooms all have both shower and jacuzzi, and are warm and cosy, with rugs and throws woven from local lamb’s wool, plus usual amenities.
With its very own boat “Williche” for taking guests out to explore the fjords and waterways, the hotel offers tailored half-day and full day excursions to discover the beauty of the island. Guests can also explore the island on foot, on horseback, bike or even kayak, and there are markets to wander through. Chiloe is home to UNESCO world heritage churches which are well worth a visit.

The hotel is located about twenty minutes from the main town of Castro, and about 2 hours from where the ferry drops off. There are beautiful views of the lake, and all rooms all have a lake view. There are a variety of excursions to choose from, I did a full day on the boat with kayaking and we visited the UNESCO heritage churches on smaller islands. Their boat is beautiful, it has a bar and books on board and the guides were really informed about the area. My opinion is that Chiloe is a place for people to go if they've got some extra time to explore Chile in depth, and the history and heritage appeals.

I had a fantastic time at Tierra Chilo and exploring the surrounding islands. Our guide was local to the area and went above and beyond to look after us. If you take a tour out on the boat make sure you keep an eye out for any penguins and dolphins!
