Best Time to Visit Central America
Late November to April tends to be the dry season for Central America, with a year-round tropical climate providing warm temperatures and clear skies, there will be pockets of tropical rain showers in the shoulder seasons but if you’re happy to take an umbrella you will experience fewer crowds at the top attractions. Humidity tends to rise during late-April and May, where the tropical landscape can reach temperature in the triple digits. There are of course regional variations, with Costa Rica being drier through May to September.

Winter (December - February)
During our winter, escape for some sun anywhere in Central America and enjoy the balmy temperatures inland and on the coastline. For some of the world’s most astonishing sightings of grey whales, spend some time in Baja California in Mexico, where you will witness almost the entire population of the planet’s grey whales migrate through. For nature fanatics, stay in the town of Morelia and venture to the mountains where you can immerse yourself in the monarch butterfly migration, one of natures greatest miracles. Millions of these delicate orange and black butterflies congregate and you will get some stunning photos through the dappled light of the forest.

Spring (March - May)
Explore the fauna-rich rainforests, the powder-soft beaches encased with lush vegetation and the thriving rum and rumba fuelled night life of Panama during March and April. Panama at this time of year is far less visited by tourists and you can make the most of the shoulder season rates and warm weather before the rains begin in May. Similarly, Belize should also be on your list to explore, particularly if you are a diving fanatic; dive into the ocean and swim alongside whale sharks, gazing in awe at these gentle giants.

Summer (June - August)
Although it’s not the driest time of year to travel to Costa Rica, July to August is an incredible time to visit as you can witness loggerhead sea turtles laying their eggs on the coast of Tortuguero National Park. It’s also the time when humpback whales migrate through from Antarctica; head out on a boat and marvel at the magnitude of these impressive animals and on the way, spot bottlenose dolphins zipping along side you.

Autumn (September - November)
We recommend avoiding September as it’s hurricane season, but from October Mexico is a magical place to be for the Day of the Dead Celebrations. For the most authentic experience, we recommend spending a few nights in the heart and soul of Mexico, Oaxaca, where the country’s indigenous roots have embraced ancient civilisations, Spanish splendour and modern Mexican spirit. Delve into the bizarre and beautiful spirt of this tradition, witnessing spectacular parades and intricate costumes. The festival is celebrated on the Halloween weekend and the days either side, but regardless of the festival, Oaxaca is a fascinating place to visit with one of the most dynamic food scenes in the world.
