High season is generally December to April when it's warm and humid. The coastal location ensures that temperatures rarely exceed 30°C and generally do not fall below 13°C (night-time in July). Even in winter (June-September), when rates are lower, daytime temperatures usually reach 21°C. This can be a lovely time to visit as it is warm in the day, cooler at night and drier. Rainfall is a possibility throughout the year, but the peak summer months of January and February often experience heavier showers. Christmas, New Year, January, Carnival, Easter and Paraty's International Literary Festival (normally held in July) are high season and hotels will be busy.

Pousada do Ouro is a small boutique hotel in the charming colonial town of Paraty on Brazil’s laid back Emerald Coast. Behind the whitewashed 18th-century façade at Do Ouro, interiors are simple and stylish, with bold colours and authentic touches.
Founded in 1650, Paraty (or Parati as it is also known) is a beautiful colonial town that has remained relatively unchanged right into the 21st century. It used to be the principal port for exporting gold and other minerals in the country and enjoyed great prosperity. Today, Paraty is considered to be one of the most important examples of colonial architecture in the world.
The Pousada do Ouro, built in the 18th Century, retains much of its colonial charm. The guesthouse is just a few metres' walk to the sea, where you can take a short boat trip to the surrounding islands, bays and beaches. The guest rooms and suites have been decorated in the simple but characterful Paraty style and feature modern amenities.
An excellent way to spend the day is on a boat or schooner exploring many of the 65 unspoilt islands, which have golden sandy beaches. The area is also ideal for walking, hiking, snorkelling and fishing. In the historical centre of Paraty there are numerous boutiques, bars and charming little restaurants offering delicious local cuisine, including mouth-watering seafood.
There are 27 rooms & suites at Pousada do Ouro, each with a simple, fresh feel with crisp linens, woven rugs, dark woods and a collection of artwork. The rooms at the Pousada are located on both sides of a narrow cobbled street, one building contains all of the lounge space and the pool while the other is dedicated entirely to accommodation, which is centred around a pretty cobblestone courtyard.
Children are welcome at the hotel, and babysitting can be arranged upon request, but there are no specific facilities or guaranteed interconnecting rooms.
Facilities include a swimming pool, bar which serves light meals, sauna and small spa.
Explore the cobblestone streets of Paraty's historic centre, checking out the many bars, galleries and boutiques. A city tour offers a great introduction into the importance of Paraty as one of Brazil's major ports back in the 1600s, while heading out to the region's many waterfalls and cachaca distilleries will give an insight into the region's natural beauty and also into one of Brazil's most famous products. Alternatively, take a schooner out to the regions many islands and beaches and swim in the emerald green waters, enjoying kayaking or paddleboarding in the calm waters of the bays.
