Need a virtual escape? Then read on as we share 8 of our favourite travel podcasts to whisk you away to another world. Well… country. All found on Spotify, ranging from short 30 minutes episodes to one hour, they are sure to inspire your next trip.

Zero to Travel Podcast by Jason Moore

Packed with advice, this podcast has been created with everyone in mind from travel newbies to avid explorers. As well as interviewing voyagers on once-in-a-lifetime journeys, Jason Moore also covers his top tips on how to budget and safety advice. To give you a taste, titles from recent podcasts include “How to Overcome Travel Anxiety and Fear of Flying”, “Ireland: Travel, Music And History” and “An African in India”.

Armchair Explorer

For those who enjoy good old storytelling, the “Armchair Explorer” is set to music and cinematic effects to really set the scenes. Each episode follows a great adventurer and their best memories from the road. Forget in-depth interviews, you’ll dive straight into the heart of the journey. Hosted by Aaron Miller, an award-winning travel journalist and author, each episode is absolutely thrilling. So grab a cup of tea and settle in for this one.

Escape Podcast by Simon Calder

Renowned travel journalist and broadcaster, Jason Calder is currently senior travel editor for The Independent. His podcast covers current affairs in the world of travel, from concerns over global warming to exciting new destinations, all in short programmes released weekly (or more often if necessary). Guests on the podcast include Tony Wheeler, co-founder of Lonely Planet and Lyn Hughes, editor in chief of Wanderlust magazine.

The Big Travel Podcast

Lisa Francesca, another distinguished journalist, filmmaker and regular radio and tv presenter, leads The Big Travel Podcast. Speaking to famous faces from all walks of life including politicians, sports stars, actors, philanthropists and authors, you’ll explore their life-stories through the means of travel. Guests cover memories of childhood camping trips and recent extraordinary adventures that will make you both laugh and cry.

Travel with Rick Steves

Acclaimed TV personality and presenter, Rick’s one-hour conversations with guest experts and callers covers travel, cultures, people and really anything you can discover around the world. Episodes include conversations around a range of topics such as a first timer guides to Spain, Scottish nationalism and ghosts in Papua New Guinea. As a respected authority on European travel, his audible collection extends well beyond this podcast.

Indie Travel Podcast by Craig & Linda Martin

Avid travellers and couple Craig and Linda started this podcast nearly ten years ago after wanting to share their lessons from mistakes while on the road. Today, the fortnightly podcast is short and sweet at around 20 to 30 minutes and delves into entertaining stories from backpackers, expats and digital nomads. Named by Lonely Planet as The Best Travel Podcast, we think that’s enough of an incentive to give it a go.

Amateur Traveler by Chris Christensen

Each episode of the Amateur Traveler focuses in on a specific country or experience alongside a local or expert from the region. The podcast explains why you should travel there, what to do and where to eat. Lasting anywhere between 40 to 60 minutes, one episode you’ll be learning about a safari in Botswana and the next travelling through Hawaii’s Big Island. Initiated back in 2005, there’s a fantastic back-library to listen in to.

Taste Trekkers Find Dining Podcast

For the foodies out there (and we know there are a lot of you), this podcast with Seth Resler joins culinary experts and travel bloggers from around the world for insider secrets and top tips. Though not the most current podcast out there, you’ll go on a culinary journey around the globe from Israel and Crete to New Zealand. So, grab your notepad and listen in as you discover where the natives really go out to eat in their local scene.
