Situated only 6° south of the equator, Zanzibar enjoys ideal vacation weather. Temperatures average between 24°C and 27°C throughout the year with 7-9 hours of sunshine per day.
There are 2 rainy seasons: Acute, brief showers, lasting about an hour in the morning occur for a couple of weeks during November. The rains last slightly longer in April and May, but even then it does not rain every day. These rains replenish the Island and are often referred to as the “Green Season”.

Breezes Beach Club & Spa is a charming and relaxed resort set on a beautiful stretch of white sand beach on the east coast of Zanzibar. 71 rooms including 20 suites are divided between 11 villas in a pretty garden, all close to the main pool and beach.
Breezes Beach Club is a friendly, relaxed and comfortable hotel, set on one of Zanzibar's best beaches. The beach, though tidal, is a fantastic stretch of white sand where you can walk for miles.
The hotel is designed and furnished in a typical Zanzibari style, with plenty of local color and flare. The 72 air-conditioned rooms and suites are all set in the beautifully landscaped gardens overlooking the beach.
The rooms are cleverly positioned into separate cottages spread around pretty gardens filled with colorful bougainvillea plants and palm trees. Each cottage consists of four Deluxe Rooms on the ground floor and two Suites above which have a larger bathroom and spacious balcony. The clever design means there is not one large block of rooms and the hotel feels smaller and more intimate. To the back of the property are ten standard rooms, all on the ground-floor. There is also a villa which contains two interconnecting deluxe rooms with a central living room.
There are two restaurants and the cuisine features local spices and delicacies from the Indian Ocean as well as international cuisine. There are three bars, a chai lounge and a beachfront restaurant open for lunch each day. You can also book to have a romantic dinner on the beach under the stars.
Guests looking for total relaxation of the mind and body can enjoy the Frangipani Spa which provides a blissful and tranquil setting as well as a wide range of treatments. There is a large swimming pool and plenty of sunloungers, whether you want to find a spot in the shade or the sun.
For those looking to be more active, there is a great watersports center where you can organize boat trips, snorkeling, diving, kite surfing, deep sea fishing, dolphin trips, sailing and much more! There is also a small gym and a flood-lit tennis court.
There are four categories of room: standard rooms, deluxe rooms, suites and villas. All are air conditioned and include a safe, tea and coffee making facilities, telephone and hairdryer in the bathroom. The 10 standard rooms are located furthest away from the sea with a terrace and garden view. The 40 deluxe rooms are located on ground floor of cottages, in groups of four, each with a terrace. The 20 suites are located on the upper floor of the cottages (above the deluxe rooms), with a walk in dressing room and larger bathroom with large terrace, private sunbathing area, and a covered outdoor lounge area. Finally there is a villa which contain two deluxe rooms with living room, which are interconnecting.
There are no specific facilities available for children such as a kids club, however children of all ages are very welcome to stay at Breezes Beach Club and Spa.
The facilities at Breezes are excellent, with an extensive spa, gift shop, gym, floodlit tennis court and a large swimming pool. There are no TVs in the rooms but there is a TV lounge where guests can watch satellite TV including international news channels and sports channels. There are plenty of lounges where you can relax with a good book, a bar built around a Swahili dhow and a whisky and cigar bar. Breakfasts and dinners are served at the main restaurant, Salama, offering a full buffet breakfast each morning and four course table service dinner with two starters and a choice of main course and dessert. The Sultan's Table offers a more intimate atmosphere for dinner, with an a-la-carte menu using Indian, Swahili and Asian influences (not included in the half board). The Tides is a private dining room for two, set on the beachfront with candles and a special menu, ideal for special occasions (at an additional cost, requires pre-booking).
There is therefore something for everyone, whether you are feeling adventurous or sporty or just want to take some time out. At the watersports club you can book onto the daily snorkeling boat trip to the lagoon, and hire reef shoes, kayaks and pedal boats. You can also arrange sailing, kite-surfing, windsurfing and scuba-diving at the 5 star PADI certified dive center which also offers dive courses. All activities are payable locally, and please note the dive center does not accept credit cards, only cash.

This is a great value option for a few days on the beach after a safari in Tanzania. Set on beautiful Bwejuu Beach on Zanzibars east coast its very relaxed in atmosphere with a good spa and watersports facilities as well as a big outdoor pool.
The food is good without being anything outstanding and a buffet dinner is served every evening, sometimes with live cooking stations.
In all honesty, the rooms do look a little dated and could do with a refresh and the bathrooms are small. I would not recommend this as a luxury option but it is set on a lovely beach and is great for a relaxing few days and great for a family with older children.
A dhow trip on the coast of Zanzibar
