Heading off the beaten track in Swedish Lapland invites you to a world not only of epic landscapes with vast frozen seas and snow-clad forests, but also to some unique accommodation staying in an African-inspired tented camp and in a Treehotel suspended above the wooded canopy. Stepping away from the cities you’ll experience the true calm and serenity of this winter wilderness and your chances of spotting the elusive Northern Lights as well as enjoying some fun winter activities.

  1. Days 1-3: Swedish Lapland

Pine Bay lodge is a humble hotel surrounded by a frozen sea in the Luleå Archipelago offering a unique landscape perfect for wintery excursions – you can even set off onto the frozen water on a hovercraft. Staying off the beaten track you’ll find old fishing villages and a chance to glimpse the local wildlife. Another truly unique activity on offer here is to enjoy a wilderness dinner on Ice, served out on the frozen sea, where, away from the lights of the hotel, you can enjoy the stars as you sample traditional food.

Accommodation: Pine Bay Lodge (2 nights)

  2. Days 3-5: Swedish Lapland

A tented safari camp at the edge of a frozen lake is not your usual accommodation choice in Swedish Lapland. However, this unique concept is perfect for those seeking something off the beaten track; run by charming Swede Fredrik Broman this eco-lodge offers utter peace and tranquillity, optimal Northern Lights viewing and the most wonderful Swedish welcome. With limited facilities available the tents are warm and cosy, ensuring a comfortable night’s sleep sheltered from the freezing temperatures outside for a truly unique experience. Due to the rustic set-up there are no showers here, however for just a couple of nights we think it is worth it to have unspoiled views of the sky away from any artificial lights.

Accommodation: Aurora Safari Camp (2 nights)

  3. Days 5-7: Swedish Lapland

Your final stop is one of Sweden’s most iconic hotels- the magnificent Treehotel set amidst snow clad pine trees with panoramic views of Lapland. Suspended high among the trees the Treehotel has a number of different, unique room options available such as the blue cone or the UFO. As well as a unique stay suspending in the trees here you can also expect incredible sunrises and sunsets, marvelous individually-designed treehouses, traditional Swedish fare and a plethora of winter activities. There truly is no better way to round off a once-in-a-lifetime trip than with a stay under a canopy of pine trees, and the ideal spot from which to see the Northern Lights.

    Accommodation: Treehotel (2 nights)

A trip to Lapland would not be complete without an encounter with some furry huskies. Meet the huskies and their owner and watch them be harnessed before taking off on a thrilling sled ride on forest trails.
