-
Days 1-3: Vientiane
This journey begins in Vientiane, Laos' sleepy capital city that hugs the Mekong river. It's a delightful place to spend a few days and a great introduction to Laos with tree lined boulevards dotted with crumbling French cafes and restaurants that are interspersed with decorative working temples. With your guide, explore the highlights of the city center including the French inspired Arc de Triomphe, the ethereal Buddha Park and the fascinating COPE center where you can learn about Laos’ efforts to recover from its dubious history as the world’s most bombed country.
Accommodation: Ansara Hotel (2 nights)
-
Days 3-4: Nong Khiaw, Northern Laos
From Muang La the trip moves slightly south with a drive to Muang Khua, from here it's a boat ride down the glorious Nam Ou River to Nong Khiaw. The scenery here is absolutely outstanding as the river is flanked by sharp limestone karsts and luminous terraced paddy fields. During the one night stop in Nong Khiaw enjoy some time relaxing or perhaps make use of the complimentary bicycles to explore the town and villages nearby. With your guide, embark on a challenging three-hour trek past a number of cascading waterfalls and stopping for a Lao-style picnic at the summit. The untouched countryside here is far off the tourist trail, and it is a truly special experience to venture this far into such a little-known area.
Accommodation: Mandala Ou (1 night)
-
Days 4-7: Muang La, Northern Laos
From Vientiane you will take a short flight up to the mountainous north of the country, landing in the small town of Oudomxay. From here it's just a 45-minute scenic drive to Muang La Resort. This beautiful property sits in the wilds of northern Laos, home to the most pristine verdant hills and colorfully adorned hill tribe communities. This area is ripe for trekking and exploring and we have included an exciting half day trip discovering local Ikhos tribe villages by 4x4 as well as a half day mountain biking experience. It's easily one of southeast Asia's best areas for untouched trekking and authentic village visits and we recommend a minimum of three nights here.
Accommodation: Muang La Resort (3 nights)

Fly home from Luang Prabang
-
Days 7-11: Luang Prabang
The journey continues by road to Luang Prabang, that should take about 3 hours. Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is one of Laos' highlights. It exudes old world charm, with beautiful colonial architecture, glistening temples and streets lined with high end boutiques, museums and restaurants. It's cooler than the capital Vientiane as it sits at a higher altitude and is surrounded by lofty green hills and two flowing rivers. It's easily one of the most charming towns in southeast Asia and deservedly protected by UNESCO. Here we invite you to make the most of your four nights stay with a full day walking tour of the city, a visit to the famous Kuang Si waterfalls for a refreshing swim.
Accommodation: Rosewood Luang Prabang (4 nights)
