Hugo Pizzini was there to greet us on arrival at Rosa Alpina and it was immediately clear that the owner takes such pride in every guest and every aspect of the hotel which has been in his family for over 80 years. The level of service in the hotel is the highest I have experienced for a long long time and the attention to detail and the level of care shown by every member of staff is exceptional. The hotel is located right in the heart of the pretty village of San Cassiano and makes the perfect base to explore the wonders of the dolomites. Each of the hotels rooms is unique all with wonderful little design touches. Mine was modern with an egg-shaped bath and a terrace overlooking the mountains and the river which runs alongside the town. Others have small frescoes on the walls, chandeliers or ceramic stoves. Everything is postcard pretty. The food at Rosa Alpina is a major focus and the fine dining restaurant St Hubertus won its third Michelin star in 2018. The philosophy is eat the mountain which effectively translates to only using ingredients which can be found within the dolomites. This means no olive oil, no lemon and only freshwater fish. Its an incredible accomplishment and worth traveling for alone. I was in the Dolomites for the hiking season and the Rosa Alpina was the ideal place to return to each afternoon as it is so wonderfully soothing. Hugo was back to wave us off as we departed a slice of the chefs strudel packed up as a gift for the ride back to Venice. Thoughtful as ever!

Rosa Alpina is a luxurious family run hotel with amazing service and exceptional food. From the moment you arrive the staff make you feel welcome and relaxed in your new home from home. It is the perfect place for both families and couples with facilities aimed at both. Be sure to book your restaurants in advance to make sure you get to try all the incredible options including the three Michelin star restaurant as they are also very popular with the locals. San Cassiano is a quiet village, but everything you need is located in the hotel and with the lifts just a short drive away in the hotels shuttle service.

The Rosa Alpina has is known as one of the pioneering hotels in the region and it certainly lived up to my high expectations. It offers a refined and elegant approach to service. The hotel has been in the family for multiple generations and the familys passion for the region is evident. Hugo, the owner, is extremely proud of the establishment and can always be seen at the heart of the hotel chatting to guests about the culture and local area. The locally sourced food and produce is used in all of their restaurants. Food is definitely at the heart of the Rosa Alpina. With 3 Michelin Star chef Norbert Niederkofler at the helm of the St Hubertus restaurant, this is one of the most famous restaurants in the country. He gained his third Michelin Star after changing the ethos to cook the mountain, meaning all produce is from the mountain all year round. Although the Rosa Alpina doesnt have a main wow factor feature it has consistently fantastic service in all elements of the hotel and understated elegance.
