Walking Tour of Varanasi

After a sunrise boat trip along the Ganges, your guide will walk you along the famous Ghats of the city where you will see pilgrims doing their morning rituals. The guide will then lead you through the back streets of the city. There will be a chance to see the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and also Gyanvapi Mosque (from the outside). Kashi Vishwanath temple is a Shiva Temple and has huge importance for Hindus. It has been destroyed many times in history and is now located opposite the Gyanvapi Mosque which occupies the original site of the temple. Interestingly Varanasi also has a large Muslim population and this mosque is of great significance for this population. Whilst walking though the back streets of Varanasi you will see many small stalls selling wood for the funeral pyres and materials for ritual offerings. If you wish, your guide can also take you to a Cremation Ghat to understand and see first hand the ritual and significance of the burning of the body in Hinduism.
