Best time to Visit

Average time to visit
In the western, central and eastern Bhutan you will mostly experience cold European-like weather. Winter lasts here from November to March. The Monsoon occurs between June and August when the temperature is normally between 8° and 21°C. October and November are arguably the best months, when the monsoon has passed and the skies are clear. The spring months of March, April and May are best for the flora, but it can be stormy as the monsoon builds up for July-September.

Itinerary
This ultimate trekking vacation takes in two of the best short treks in Bhutan: the Druk Path Trek and the Bumdra High Camp. Alongside these we have included some fantastic experiences and chance to explore the spectacular natural beauty of this amazing country. Bhutan's trekking trails are relatively untouched because the few tourists that come to Bhutan generally focus on the more cultural aspects of the country allowing this itinerary to showcase a more raw and undiscovered Bhutan.

Days 1-2: Thimphu
On arrival in Bhutan you will have one night in Thimphu after your international flight. On arrival in Paro, the only international airport in Bhutan, you will be met by your private guide and driver who will be with you for the rest of your journey and driven just over an hour to Thimphu.
Accommodation: Druk Hotel (1 night)
-
Days 2-4: Punakha
From Thimphu you will drive just over three hours to Punakha where you will be spending the following two nights. Here you can enjoy some gentle day walks in the beautiful surrounding countryside, getting you acclimatised to Bhutan, gearing up for your proper treks to come. Keeping you active we have included a cycle ride down one of the valleys and some rafting along the river, passing right in front of the Punakha Dzong, the most beautiful and acclaimed in Bhutan.

-
Days 4-6: Gangtey
Next you will drive further east to Gangtey, known especially for its spectacular scenery and various trekking nature trails which we have of course included for you to explore with your guide. Due to its influx of black-necked cranes each winter, Gangtey is also home to the most important wildlife preserve in Bhutan and depending on time of year that you visit, it will be possible to spot these elegant birds. We have also included a stop into the Gangte Goemba which dates to over 450 years old and is very interesting to explore.
Accommodation: Gangtey Lodge (2 nights)

Days 6-7: Thimphu
Then it is back to Thimphu, which is a longer drive of just under four hours. Here you will have one night in order to rest and prepare for your trek that you will commence the following day.
Accommodation: Druk Hotel (1 night)
-
Days 7-10: Paro, Bhutan
Next you will set off on your Druk Path Trek. For all of the treks in Bhutan we use an exceptional team of staff to support your trekking ambitions. The Druk Path Trek is a three night / four day trek which runs along the old walking trail between Thimphu and Paro. During your time on the trek you’ll pass several remote lakes, beautiful monasteries, orchards, pine and rhododendron forests (which flower in March). During the trek you will also be treated to spectacular views of the surrounding mountain peaks such as Mt Jumolhari (7314m) and Jichu Drake (6989m). This is such a unique and special way to experience Bhutan. Along the way, as you stop each night you’ll find tents that have been carpeted, with beds installed with bed sheets and pillows. There are lights, hot water bottles and towels provided to make sure you sleep contently. There is a heated dining tent, a hot shower tent and toilet tent. They will light a camp fire at night and also have archery and Bhutanese darts on offer.
Accommodation: Druk Path Trek (3 nights)
-
Days 10-11: Paro
From Paro, you’ll be driven along the main highway and begin your trek to Bumdra. You begin at Sang Choekor where you trek 3-4 hours to the High Camp, located right under Bumdra Monastery at 3,500m. If you still feel fresh, there is an option 2-3 hour onward trek to the peak above the camp at 4,000m offering amazing views of the Himalayan range.
Accommodation: Bumdra High Camp (1 night)
-
Days 11-12: Paro
At the end of the trek, on arrival in Paro, you will have one night here to relax and unwind before embarking on your next trek the following day.
Accommodation: COMO Uma Paro (1 night)
-
Days 12-14: Paro
On departing from the trek back to Paro, your second day takes you via the amazing Tiger's Nest Monastery (but unlike other travelers, you reach it from above), and also many of the other buildings that tourists do not see on a standard walk up to the monastery. The day takes 5-7 hours before arriving in Paro where you will be spending your next two nights, relaxing before your flight home. If you are wanting to have each day completely filled, we can of course include a day of guiding in Paro so that you can explore the valley with visits to the main Dzong and museum.
