Bhutanese rivers are teeming with fishes, most famously of which are the brown trouts and snow trouts. Fishing is allowed by special permit along most rivers, including in Paro River and Thimphu River. The best time for fly-fishing in Bhutan is between mid-April to mid-May.
Catch and release is the common practice for fly-fishing in Bhutan, as taking the fish back as a trophy is not allowed by the government.
Please note that fly fishing is prohibited during October and November as it is the breeding season. Fly fishing is also prohibited during important religious days.
