Jackalope is a design-led hotel full of surreal show-stopping glamour. A collaboration of Australia’s leading designers and creative talents, the property sits within its own vineyard, Willow Creek, about half way along the Mornington Peninsula.

One of the first things that strikes guests is the seven-meter tall giant black sculpture outside the hotel’s entrance, a fusion of a jackrabbit and antelope, creating a mythical animal called a jackalope, from which the hotel takes its name. The theatrical touches continue inside where you will find a black color scheme, custom-made furniture, original artwork, neon lighting and gold accents.

This avant-garde urban design is less evident in the 45 rooms which exude calm and serenity, with a predominantly black, grey and ivory palette. Generously-sized, the rooms include king-size bed, custom-designed furniture, en-suite bathroom with double rain shower and the option for a black stone deep-soak Japanese bath. Amenities include free Wi-Fi, Smart TV with on-demand movies, Bose speakers and complimentary minibar. All rooms include outside space.

There are two ultra-modern restaurants. The more casual is the Rare Hare serving small plates of artisan-produced local produce, while the main restaurant Doot Doot Doot, offers a range of set course degustation menus and regular wine events with food and wine pairings. The completely black space is lit by an art installation, Ten Thousand Light Bulbs, sculpted to resemble the fermentation bubbles produced during wine production. At the end of the drive, the stylishly black and gold Flaggerdoot cocktail lounge is housed in an old Edwardian homestead.

Guests can enjoy relaxing in the 30-meter black-tiled infinity pool overlooking the vineyard or enjoy a signature oil-based massage in the spa housed in the adjacent Geode building, shaped like alpine peaks and clad in zinc. A hotel for design-conscious couples, Jackalope combines urban cool with rural charm.
