Given that Vietnam is a long country, the weather patterns can vary greatly. In general, the best months to go if you are visiting north, central and south Vietnam are from January/February to March/April. In winter, northern Vietnam can get quite cold, and mountainous areas such as Sapa can experience regular mists, although it is usually fairly dry. In June and July this region can get very hot. Central Vietnam is at its best from January to April, and although there is a higher chance of rain from April to September, this is still a good time to travel. The central coast experiences heavy rain from September to November/December. Southern Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta, is always hot and humid, with the best weather between November to March. This area can get very wet in summer months, with regular flooding.
Itinerary
Hanoi
Your adventure begins in Hanoi, located in the north of the country. Vietnam’s charming capital city is sure to captivate you from the moment you touch down. Whisk through the airport with a VIP service, and travel into the city centre. Watch as the vibrant city buzzes around you; locals whizzing on bikes, markets, street food vendors and quirky shop fronts offer an exciting introduction to the country. You will stay for two nights at the famous Sofitel Legend Metropole, located near the enchanting Old Quarter, while you absorb everything that this city has to offer.
Explore the inner workings of Hanoi on a bespoke and private tour curated just for you, with your interests taking the reins. Marvel at the huge mausoleum at the Ho Chi Minh complex which contains the body of the former ruler, Ho Chi Minh’s old house and the famous One Pillar Pagoda. Potter through the delightfully pretty Temple of Literature and visit the fascinating Ethnology Museum to learn about Vietnam’s diverse ethnic minorities. Take a stroll through the atmospheric Old Quarter, stopping off for a cup of tea at a traditional tea shop. Awaken your taste buds on a mouth-watering street food tour, designed to showcase some of the best local Vietnamese cuisine. Conclude your day with a world-famous Water Puppet show, an art form unique to northern Vietnam.
Halong Bay
The dramatic scenery of Halong Bay awaits you. This morning you depart Hanoi to travel by road, approximately four hours, to this spectacular UNESCO Heritage Site. Sail away on board a traditional yet luxurious junk boat where you will spend the night, a truly unique experience. Admire the incredible limestone karst scenery. Visit remarkable caves, scenic viewpoints and floating villages or pearl farms. This area is truly breath-taking, and definitely a ‘must-do’ for any first-time visitor to Vietnam.

Hoi An
Return to Hanoi by road as your adventure continues and take a short domestic flight down to Danang. From Danang it’s just a 45-minute drive towards the historic town of Hoi An, a beautifully preserved old Asian trading port. Spend three nights at the superb Four Seasons Nam Hai. The hotel, which offers exquisite style and service as well as luxurious accommodation, is located on a gorgeous stretch of sandy beach. Don’t waste any time; head straight down and dip your toes in as soon as you arrive!
Whilst it may be tempting to simply sit back and give in to the hotel’s wonderful pools or beach, there is also a plethora of things to see and do in the area. Take the short hop into the town of Hoi An, where you can discover a multitude of historic sites. Settle in for a cocktail or bia hoi and a delicious meal at one of the brilliant bars or restaurants; well-known for its excellent food, you won’t want to miss eating well whilst in Hoi An. Look on as the locals in tiny basket boats traverse the waterways. Pop in to visit a skilled local tailor who can whip you up a beautiful new outfit to treasure in no time. You may also wish to spend an adrenaline-filled morning exploring the lush countryside with the wind in your hair on the back of a vintage Vespa, or take in a beautiful sunset from a cruise on the Thu Bon River.
Whether you want to completely immerse yourself in the local culture or simply unwind on the beach, Hoi An has something to suit every taste.
Saigon
Your journey continues today as you travel back to Danang by road and take a domestic flight down to Ho Chi Minh City in the south of the country. This buzzing metropolis has a vibrant atmosphere and a fascinating array of architecture, offering a wonderful contrast to Hanoi.
Take a private speedboat up the Saigon River to visit the fascinating Cu Chi Tunnels. These underground tunnels were used by the Viet Cong during the America-Vietnam War to move undetected and carry out guerrilla attacks. Your guide will help you delve deep into the history and tactics used during the war and, if you feel so inclined, you can even take the chance to crawl through one of the tunnels yourself and really put yourself in the shoes of the Viet Cong.
You may also wish to enjoy some of Ho Chi Minh City at your own pace. Take time to visit some of the historically significant sites, such as the Archbishop’s Palace, Gia Long Palace and a private home which was one of the bases for planning the Tet Offensive. Venture into the Mekong Delta for the day to catch a glimpse of rural life in the country’s ‘rice bowl’. The city also boasts an exciting foodie scene, and so this is a great opportunity to try some slightly more adventurous dishes such as frogs’ legs and snails – we dare you to give it a go! Why not take a food tour and travel like a local, journeying through the city on the back of a Vespa, stopping off at recommended restaurants along the way.
Con Dao Island
After 10 days of being on the go, it is about time for some well-earned relaxation and this final stop will tick all the right boxes. From Ho Chi Minh City take a domestic flight to Con Son, the largest island in the Con Dao Archipelago. Settle in for five nights at the wonderful Six Senses Con Dao, an exclusive and luxurious retreat. The secluded sandy beaches and stunning crystal clear waters with their jungle backdrop will not disappoint. Take full advantage of the fabulous restaurants at your fingertips, the attentive service, and a wide selection of activities during your stay. Trek through the jungle or along the coastline. Snorkel or dive at one of the archipelago’s quiet islands and explore the underwater world. Join the locals and cycle into the town or explore the island. Settle down for a picnic on the beach. The list goes on…we’re betting you’ll be heading back here at some point to ensure you tick everything off that is on offer! The time has now come to say goodbye and transfer to the airport to catch your flight home.
