Itinerary

Day 1-4

Luang Prabang

Luang Prabang is a fantastic introduction to Indochina, with peaceful streets that are easy to navigate on foot or by bicycle. It's a wonderful family option, picturesque and cultural with lots of fun activities and friendly locals. While you are here we suggest you embark on a day tour with your Laotian guide, for a local’s perspective on the wonderful history of the town. Visit the gold tiled Royal Palace, the breath in the incense infused atmosphere inside Wat Xieng Thong and learn about the astonishing diversity of Lao culture in the diminutive Ethnology Centre. We also suggest you take a day to relax at Kuang Si waterfall. Visit the Sun Bear Sanctuary where these adorable native bears live having been rescued from poachers or loggers, and walk up to the falls, passing levels of inviting blue pools, fringed with tropical plants and offering a variety of depths, perfect for wading or there are also platforms and trees for adventurous types to jump from into the deep water below. Children will love hearing the tale of the Golden Deer, and active teens will enjoy the challenging scramble up to the top of the main cascade, where you can watch the water fall away beneath your feet.

Accommodation: Belmond La Résidence Phou Vao ( 3 nights )
Day 4-7

Khao Sok National Park, Thailand

Next stop is a short flight to Phuket, and a scenic three-hour drive north to the Khao Sok National Park, one of Thailand’s last remaining areas of primary rainforest and home to Elephant Hills, a firm Scott Dunn favourite.  Elephant Hills is the most wonderful tented jungle camp that offers canoeing, trekking, river cruises and of course humane and authentic elephant experiences that are perfect for families. Please be aware that the minimum age here is 4 years old, and children under the age of 7 will not be able to spend a night at the lake camp but will need to stay at the rainforest camp for the duration of their stay.

Accommodation: Elephant Hills Tented Camp ( 3 nights )
Day 7-11

Koh Lanta

From Elephant Hills you will be driven south to the pier where you will embark on a one hour boat journey to the sandy shores of Koh Lanta where you will spend the remainder of your trip relaxing on the beach. We recommend the Pimalai, one of our favourite family friendly hotels on this magnificent island. From its hilltop position you have wonderful views of the bay and the resort has luxurious rooms, facilities and a flawless service to match. If you are still after some activity, there is plenty to be found. Take a kayak out to explore the island from the sea, try your hand at windsurfing or explore the underwater life with some fabulous snorkelling and diving opportunities. Back on land you can take a cooking class or borrow a bike and head off around the island. Or of course, while the kids are busy exploring, just lie on the sandy beach with a good book and a drink in hand.

Accommodation: Pimalai Resort & Spa ( 4 nights )
Fly home from Koh Lanta, Thailand
