Romantic picnics are a must on their little neighbouring island, Vomo Lailai
Vomo’s 30 villas are elegant and stylishly furnished in shades of cream and brown, with rich hardwood floors and romantic mosquito netted beds. The Resort features 21 Deluxe Beachside Villas tucked amongst the palms and frangipani trees just steps from the beach or one of 3 Deluxe Hillside Villas which enjoy panoramic ocean views. All villas feature CD players, corner spa baths and private sundecks complete with loungers, tables and chairs. Each of the villas has a king size bed (which can be split into two singles if necessary) – and for families, most of the Beachside Villas are in blocks of two and can interconnect. Alternatively, a family of up to four can share either the three-bedroom Royal Villa or the four-bedroom Residence.
Vomo’s powder soft white sand beaches rank amongst the best in Fiji and are fringed with crystal clear turquoise waters, ideal for enjoying the wide array of watersports which include snorkelling, scuba-diving, kayaking, windsurfing, fishing and hobie-cat sailing. Island-hopping excursions, sunset cruises, volleyball, tennis and golf are also available. Or, hike to Vomo Point (the island’s highest point) for breathtaking panoramic views – but if this all sounds too energetic, just relax by the swimming pool, find a hammock strung between the trees, escape to the nearby tiny island of Vomo Lailai for a private picnic or indulge in a soothing spa treatment!
The original name for Vomo was ‘Vonu’, Fijian for ‘turtle’ – the resort has a breeding programme for the hawksbill turtle – and children and adults alike will love to visit these creatures which are kept in captivity on the island until they are big enough to be released into the sea. Vomo offers its Turtle Club programme for children (operates in Australian and New Zealand school holidays) and babysitters are available year round.
Food plays an integral role in the Vomo experience – delicious meals using the finest Pacific Island produce are usually served in the Reef Restaurant but private beach dinners can easily be arranged. The stylish poolside Vuda Bar is perfect for a relaxing drink – and for sunset cocktails, we highly recommend the Rocks Bar at the end of the island.
