Zungulila is open from 10th June to 5th January.
Zambia has a moderate to sub-tropical climate with three distinct seasons: from November to March is the Emerald, or the rainy season, April to July is Zambia's winter, when the weather is cool and dry, and August to October is summer, when the weather is hot and dry. In terms of game-viewing, the drier months, meaning a higher concentration of game at the permanent water sources, are a superb time to visit. Alternatively come for some superb bird-watching at the end of the rains.
To start planning your vacation to Zungulila Bush Camp
The newest addition to the stable of the Bushcamp Company, Zungulila is a small and intimate camp, offering excellent walking in pristine areas with superb guides, and a remote and exclusive experience in this quiet corner of Zambia's South Luangwa Park.
Situated on a grassy knoll overlooking wide open floodplains with the Kapamba river in the background, Zungulila bush camp epitomizes the exploring spirit of Luangwa Valley. Remote and intimate, the camp has just four beautifully designed tents, decorated in muted and fitting safari colors, and each with a four poster bed and flowing mosquito nets. Rosewood furniture lends an antique feel, and each tent overlooks either a natural spring or has far-reaching views over the floodplain in front of the camp.
Zungulila’s main area is utterly charming; almost a hotchpotch of different styles, with a wide open front overlooking that incredible view of the plains, and uninterrupted views of a natural spring which flows just below the bank. It’s a perfect spot for game viewing from the comfort of your arm chair!
Activities here focus almost exclusively on walking with your expert guide and his scout – this is serious walking country, with very few roads transecting, meaning the area is utterly pristine, and you really do feel like you are in the middle of nowhere! Walks generally focus around (and often cross) the Kapamba sand river, which attracts a variety of game. Expect stunning vistas, exciting and rewarding bush walks, and wonderful stories around the camp fire at the end of the day.
Zungulila Bush Camp has four spacious and luxurious tents to accommodate up to eight guests. They have thatched roofs to keep them cool and private verandas with stunning views of an impressive variety of wildlife on the grassy plains. The tents are all en-suite, are stylishly decorated, have hot and cold running water, outdoor showers and a sunken private plunge pool. Two of the tents have twin queen-size beds whilst the other two have a double king-size bed.
Children over the age of 12 years are welcome to come and stay at Zungulila Bush Camp. If the camp is booked as a whole, then children under 10 years are also permitted to stay. However, it should be noted that there are no specific facilities available for children.
A stay at Zungulila gives you the opportunity to explore Africa as it used to be. The professional guides will lead you on walking safaris through some of the park’s most untouched wilderness, where large herds of buffalo roam the grassy plains and thirsty elephants come to drink at the springs and the river. Activities are mostly orientated around walking, but there are a number of game drive loops in the area to explore further afield, day and night game drives are also on offer to see a variety of species. In the evening, after wading through the river, a sundowner can be enjoyed or you can sit around the campfire for a drink. Dinner is then usually served al fresco under the starry sky with views of the river.
Game Drives in the South Luangwa
Game drives are the most common way of exploring the African bush. A vehicle allows you to cover distance quickly and comfortably and offers visitors the best opportunity of getting very close to wildlife in a safe and controlled way.
Green Season Game Drives
The Green Season, Rainy Season, Emerald Season, Secret Season - what ever you decide to call it, this is a beautiful time of year to be on safari. Activities are rarely disrupted by weather and the bush is full of life.
If you get the opportunity to head out after sunset you should take it. The bush transforms under the cover of darkness as the nocturnal wildlife gets going. Using a spotlight your guide will scan the bush for eye-shine picking out some great action.
