Set above the Luangwa's banks and with sweeping views of the river to the Nchindeni Hills, South Luangwa National Park, Zambia.
In the wild south of the South Luangwa National Park, the intimate little Chamilandu Bush Camp occupies a prime position on the banks of the Luangwa River overlooking the Nchindeni hills on the far side - a perfect base from which to explore the area.
Highlights
Overlooking the stunning Nchindeni escarpment
Intimate with just three spacious treehouses set on the riverbank
Superb guiding both on foot and by vehicle
Delicious dinners served under the stars on the banks of the river
Chamilandu is a lovely and small safari camp with just three chalets spaced out along the river bank, all enjoying commanding views of the river and the escarpment beyond. It is in a beautiful shady spot, under towering ebony trees which provide shade and wildlife.
The chalets at Chamilandu are set up on high stilts, each of them open-fronted and facing the river, with a private viewing deck and comfortable chairs. The beds are four-poster, and each has a black mosquito net which contrasts superbly with the rest of the room, decorated in an African chic style. The open air bathrooms are spacious and the shower has an amazing view!
The camp has its own thatched hide nearby which overlooks a perennial lagoon - animals often come down to drink here, including family groups of elephant and large herds of buffalo. It's well worth spending some time here after your delicious brunch - superb photographs guaranteed to those who sit and watch patiently!
As Chamilandu is so intimate, guests will generally go on activities as a small group. There is the option to drive or walk - the environments near the camp are extremely varied, from mopane woodland and shady combretum thickets (perfect to find leopard) to the open floodplains and riverine forest that elephant love so much.
Chamilandu works perfectly in combination with one or more of its sister-camps - Kuyenda, Mfuwe Lodge, Bilimungwe, Chindeni, Kapamba and Zungulila. Ask us how to put together the perfect trip to explore this wild and remote area of the South Luangwa.
When to visit
Enjoy a cool drink on your deck while watching sunset over the NChindeni Hills - the colors change as the sun goes down!
