Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

The Lower Zambezi has a moderate to sub-tropical climate with three distinct seasons: from November to March is the Emerald, or the rainy season, April to July is Zambia's winter, when the weather is cool and dry, and August to October is summer, when the weather is hot and dry. In terms of game viewing, the drier months, meaning a higher concentration of game at the permanent water sources, are a superb time to visit. Alternatively come for some superb birdwatching at the end of the rains.

Situated on the banks of the Zambezi River, is the intimate Amanzi Camp which offers rustic luxury, with just four tents strung along the riverbank in a quiet and unspoiled area of the Lower Zambezi National Park.

Located on one of the most remote stretches of the Lower Zambezi, Amanzi Camp, offers an intimate safari experience with only four tents. Here you can enjoy a diverse stay with excellent game viewing and a range of safari activities on offer.

The tents and central guest area all enjoy uninterrupted views over the Ngwenya channel with a mosaic of islands in front which often play host to herds of elephants and pods of hippos. The camp has a central swimming pool with loungers on a raised teak deck which looks out over the river, making it a fabulous spot for a lazy afternoon of game viewing.

A sister camp to the larger Anabezi Camp, Amanzi Camp is the perfect choice for those looking for a relaxed safari experience in rustic luxury surroundings. There is a diverse menu of safari activities on offer with canoe safaris, walking safaris, boat cruises and fishing in addition to traditional day and night game drives.

Meg Shepro (Staff)

My stay at Amanzi Bush Camp was quiet and peaceful as I stayed in one of the four luxury tented suites. We enjoyed sundowners at the bank of the Zambezi where hundreds of Carmine Bee-eaters were nesting, the sight was truly awe inspiring and the next morning's river cruise delighted with sights of elephant and hippo all around. With a relaxed atmosphere at camp you are able to really immerse yourself in the bush and take in the surrounding serenity.

  • Canoeing on the Zambezi River

The Zambezi is renowned for truly spectacular canoeing as it provides you with the chance to see game from a wholly different perspective...looking up at it instead of down!

  • Fishing on the Zambezi River

The Zambezi River is host to some of the most incredible fresh water sport fishing in the world with both spinning and fly fishing, on a strictly catch and release policy according to the park rules. The most popular quarry is the infamous Tigerfish.

  • Game Viewing in the Lower Zambezi

Game viewing in the Lower Zambezi National Park, with varying options such as game drives, boat and canoe safaris, or bush walks, is the highlight of any safari trip to Zambia.
