A Day in Cai Be
Cai Be, Mekong Delta, Vietnam
Cai Be is one of the busiest hubs in the Mekong Delta, home to many local industries and surrounded by scenic countryside lined with waterways and orchards. Explore the area on land and water, stopping for a delicious lunch at a traditional house.
This tour can be done whilst staying in the Mekong Delta, or it is a two to three hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City. Upon arrival in Cai Be, board a private boat and set off on your adventure. Take in the busy comings and goings on the river before stopping at a collection of workshops which make local treats including coconut candy and popped rice.
Stroll through a local village before you reach Mr Kiet's family home. The house is a wonderful example of Mandarin architecture, and the family have lived here for more than four generations. Enjoy a home-cooked Vietnamese lunch and then continue your walk through the surrounding fruit orchards.
Continue to Tan Phong Island, where you will have the option of taking a trip on a row boat, known locally as a sampan, through some of the narrow canals which lead from the river. Please be aware that there are no life jackets provided and we do not recommend this for non-swimmers or families with small children.
If you are traveling from Ho Chi Minh City, we recommend setting off at around 08.00 and you will arrive back in the city at around 17.00.
