Recently opened in July 2014, Como has thought of everything and every added touch goes unnoticed, particularly in the restaurants. This contemporary build has 360 degree views that are undoubtedly the most impressive in Phuket, looking over the sparkling water of Phang Gna bay. The rooms are wonderfully light and spacious and In keeping with COMOs focus on wellbeing, the Como Shambhala Retreat offers holistic, Asian inspired treatments and therapies.

This is definitely a grower. You may be dismayed on arrival by a big grey building with a mesh like exterior, which for me almost resembled a prison. But keep the faith and instead admire all the detailed thought out designs, all of which have a story to tell, ask a member of staff to explain. Don't come here expecting a resort-like hotel, it has much more of a city feel to it, with rooms off corridors. They are currently constructing villas which may be a better option of you are after the more resort feel. But the rooms are quite spectacular, very spacious and light. Choose one with a pool and a bigger outdoor area. But for me, the biggest highlight of the hotel is the views. From every angle you look you can see out to sea and have views of the islands. It really is rather wonderful. So if you're not afraid of a bit of quirkiness and are after some 360 views, a few nights spent here would not go amiss.

Arriving at Point Yamu I did feel initially overwhelmed by the enormity of the architecture with its striking pillars in the lobby and the starkness of the clean lines. However the longer I spent wondering through the hotel, noticing all the unique design elements and stunning surrounding views, the warmer it felt and the more I liked it. It is the type of hotel, for me, that takes a little adjusting to but once I did all of its strengths in terms of design were instantly apparent. On top of this the food and service here were top notch. We had dinner in the Italian restaurant - La Sirena - and had a tomato and mozzarella salad and meat selection to start which rivalled anything that I have had in Italy itself - it was delicious!
