Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Tanzania is a large country, with a varied climate. Generally, the long rains run from March to May - the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. June to October is the long dry season, and the short rains are in November and December, much lighter than the long rains. January and February are again dry (the short dry season) so this is another good time to visit.

To start planning your vacation to Sayari Camp

Sayari Camp offers 15 luxury tents in the northern section of the Serengeti. The stunning Mara River offers incredibly exciting wildebeest crossing sightings during migration season. Even outside the migration the area offers a huge variety of game.

Sayari Camp opened in 2005 on the south bank of the famous Mara River in the Northern Serengeti. This area has been almost untouched by tourists and is only now beginning to gain recognition for what it has to offer.

The reason why there are no lodges and camps in this area is because of its remoteness. Far away from the park headquarters in the central Serengeti, the land was subject to poaching in the 1990s. However, an anti- poaching campaign has since ensured the land belongs to nature and its wildlife.

There is a spectacular concentration of wildlife year-round here and it is also famous for the Great Migration.

The 15 tented camp has two mess and dining areas to ensure intimacy and privacy. Each tent is beautifully designed with ensuite bathrooms consisting of a bath, shower, flush loo and double sink. There is a gorgeous deck area in front of the tents with stunning views overlooking the Serengeti Plains.

When you are not out on game drives, relax in camp by the stunning swimming pool, or curl up with a book in the library area. There is even a bush spa to soothe those tender muscles! A particular favorite of ours is the map room, stocked with historical and modern maps - why not ask your guide where you've been that day on your game-drive explorations?

The camp is split into two wings. Each wing has its own dining, bar and lounge tent. One wing comprises nine tents, the other six tents. The tents are spacious and are equipped with either a king size bed or twin beds, a huge bath tub, shower, double sinks and hot and cold running water. Each tent has its own veranda where you can observe the animals grazing around you.

Children over the age of 6 years are welcome to come and stay at Sayari Camp with their parents. However, there are no specific facilities available for them. An extra bed can be added to the tents if required. Families with younger children will be required to have a private vehicle when they go on safari.

During your stay at Sayari Camp you can partake in daily Game drives to try and get some glimpses of the animals. You can go walking to take in the wonderful surroundings. It is recommended to have a bush picnic during your stay as this is a wonderful experience. Off-road driving is another popular activity for the adventurous.

If you would like to relax, there is a lovely pool at the camp which is very refreshing during the heat of the day. There are also some spa facilities if you would like to indulge in some pampering.

Sayari is situated in the northern area of the Serengeti with stunning views over the plains and down to the Mara River. With just twelve tented rooms spaced well apart from each other you are guaranteed an exclusive and private experience here. The tented rooms are very unique in their design with an Asian influence. The game viewing in the area is spectacular and we saw the Big 5 in one day, including a spectacular black rhino sighting.

The food and wine is fantastic and we asked for our table to be moved outside by the fire to make the most of the Serengeti experience and enjoy a meal under the stars.

In the north of the Serengeti is one of Africas longest camps one kilometer from end to end, Sayari Camp has stunning views of the Serengeti plains and just twelve tented rooms on wooden decks.

The center of camp is a large tented area, and there is also a stunning swimming pool surrounded by wooden decks dotted with sunloungers.

We visited only very briefly but the feel is one of luxury, with activities focusing on the surrounding Serengeti plains. Perched on top of a hill the camp has amazing views both from the main area and from the tented rooms, each with a separate bathroom and designed with a Japanese influence, with opaque sliding doors separating each section.

Sayari is perfectly placed to view the migration with relatively few other vehicles in the area as it is so remote; it's very easy to spend a morning gameviewing and see only one or two other vehicles.

  • Game drive in the Serengeti

Explore the vast grasslands of the Serengeti with your safari guide on game drives in the early morning and late afternoon. This is one of the most famous national parks in Africa, and it's easy to see why.

  • Hot air ballooning over the Serengeti

Soar over the Serengeti's savannah plains in a hot air balloon at dawn, watching wildlife beneath you & finishing with a champagne bush breakfast.

  • Search for the migration herds

One of Africa's most iconic moments - the migration of two million wildebeest, zebras and gazelles around the Serengeti-Maasai Mara ecosystem.
