Best time to Visit

Good time to visit

Average time to visit

Tanzania is a large country, with a varied climate. Generally, the long rains run from March to May - the temperature is warm and the humidity is high. June to October is the long dry season, and the short rains are in November and December, much lighter than the long rains. January and February are again dry (the short dry season) so this is another good time to visit.

Tucked away on a private concession at the edge of the Tarangire National Park, Nimali Tarangire is a tranquil camp with just ten tented rooms dotted amongst the acacia and baobab trees, its relaxing atmosphere bolstered by views of the waterhole.

A quiet park on the northern safari circuit, Tarangire National Park sits between the Maasai Steppe and the lakes of the Great Rift Valley, with 2850 of varied ecosystems that range from the dry riverbeds of the high season to the lush swamps and rivers of the green season. Set throughout a landscape dusted with baobab trees and granite boulders, Nimali Tarangire blends comfortably into the natural splendour, offering a tasteful and elegant escape combined with exceptional wildlife encounters.

Inspired by the tents of Africa’s early explorers, Nimali’s accommodation is stylishly rustic, with wooden floors covered in coir rugs, leather chairs and traveling chests. The spacious rooms open out onto a private deck, where morning coffee may be accompanied by elephants splashing in the sun-dappled river. The double vanities, rain shower and flushing toilet of the ensuite bathroom create a supremely comfortable retreat after an early morning game drive, while large four-poster beds offer a dream-like sleep at the end of a day filled with adventure.

After a day of extraordinary sights and experiences, gather around the firepit to share stories of encounters with zebra, impala and wildebeest as the sparks leap in the air. Curl up with a sundowner in the open-fronted lounge, looking out over the swimming pool to the waterhole beyond. Drift away with a private in-room spa treatment before lunch under the trees or dine out in the bush, serenaded by the sounds of the insects as the candles flicker and shadows dance.

Nimali’s private concession offers guests a chance to experience the mesmerising wildlife found in the Tarangire National Park, but in more tranquil surrounds and away from the mainstream vehicles. Being away from Tarangire brings the added exclusivity of activities not open to those staying in the park, with guided walks and night drives offering an added dimension to a Nimali safari. Take a day trip to the Ngorongoro Crater to spot endangered black rhino, cheetah and black-maned lions or drive out to Lake Manyara in search of tree-climbing lions and candyfloss clouds of pink flamingos. Closer to the camp, the exceptional wildlife continues, with lion, buffalo, abundant birdlife and tree-climbing python to be found in Tarangire National Park.

Just 118km southwest of Arusha, but with a remote and serene location, Nimali Tarangire offers a chance to experience the big game and abundant birdlife of the region’s varied ecosystems while luxuriating in the beautiful surrounds of this stylish camp.
