St Moritz, Switzerland
Nira Alpina
  • Fabulously positioned 4* hotel with magnificent views

  • Right on the nursery slope with access to some of the region's most challenging skiing

  • Friendly, warm and accommodating service

  • Delicious food sourced locally and an in-house bakery

High above Lake Silvaplana, with a most spectacular vantage point, lies the 4* Superior Nira Alpina. Only five km from St Moritz, it sits prominently right next to the nursery slope, with direct access to the Corvatsch cable car through a private walkway taking skiers up to 3,300m - the highest point in the region. From here, you'll find some of the most challenging skiing in the area, with 120 km of groomed pistes and 180 km of cross country trails and a thrilling nine kilometer descent straight down into St Moritz. The Nira Alpina is an modern design hotel which suits skiers who like a little more independence away from a main resort.

It's not hard to see why guests return to the Nira Alpina year on year. With its boutique feel, it has an intimate and charming feel, whilst the service is genuinely welcoming and helpful. It has a prominent position right on the slopes and is built using local materials. All the rooms and suites are beautifully appointed with far reaching views over the Engadin mountain range, with some having their own private terraces. The living areas and restaurants are cosy with sheepskin rugs thrown over chairs and log fires. Popular in the evening is the hotel's own après ski hut, the Pichalain Bar, built in silver fir with just one long oak table and covered benches. The cuisine here and in the restaurant is excellent. All ingredients are sourced locally and are exceptionally fresh. The breakfasts are a feast, with bread and pastries baked each morning in the hotel's own bakery. The Spa is small, but very relaxing and offers a wide choice of treatments and therapies.

St Moritz has long attracted a glamorous set, with its blend of luxury boutique hotels, spas, top-notch mountain restaurants and fabulous, high-altitude skiing. However, it does have a lot more to offer. The majestic scenery in this region of Switzerland is second to none, and whether you're on the slopes, or on a sunny terrace, you can't help but be amazed by the view. The skiing itself is extensive, and particularly good for intermediate skiers, whilst there is some challenging off piste for experts. St Moritz has hosted two Olympic Games and many downhill ski championships. Off the slopes visitors are spoiled for choice – the village is host to the famous Cresta Run and you can even play snow cricket or polo during a stay here.
