Kahanda Kanda is a year round destination. The driest part of the year falls between December and April. The monsoon brings daily cloud-bursts June/July and October/November but rarely is there a full day of rain. Thankfully, the country house ambience at KK means there's nothing better than curling up to read a good book, play backgammon or scrabble, all in indulgent comfort while the rain feeds the surrounding soil.

Kahanda Kanda is a beautiful boutique resort perfect for some relaxation and down time during your trip. With 10 stunning suites scattered around the resort all offer seclusion and privacy and are therefore perfect for couples. Spend your days lounging by the pool, doing yoga in the pavilion or strolling through the surrounding plantations. Stay a little longer and use this as a base to explore the south coast, Galle and nature parks, all the while coming back to a tranquil oasis.

Kahanda Kanda has a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere to it. Set back from the beach by only 15 minutes, you cannot hear any of the hustle and bustle of the sea front. It is situated up a hill on a small tea plantation and looks out over Koggala Lake. The dining room was being extend whilst I was there and there was talk of lots of new experiences being introduced; including a picnic and boat ride on the Lake. It was one of my favorite properties in this area and I would highly encourage people to experience it for themselves.

Kahanda Kanda is one of my favorite properties on the south coast. Being located in the middle of a tea plantation, it is raised up and has fantastic views over Koggala Lake. It may not be on the beach, but this does mean that you get more space and privacy. It is also really easy to pop to the beach for the day. The suites are beautiful and the food delicious.

Favourite places in Sri Lanka? Well, one of them was definitely Kahanda Kanda. I absolutely loved this very stylish and elegant villa which sits alone in the middle of its own tea plantation. The atmosphere is laid back and luxurious without being over the top. Our host, George Cooper, and his brilliant, always attentive but unobtrusive staff managed to think of absolutely everything to make our stay a success. The food was delicious, the pool outstanding and the accommodation all superb. I expressed an interest in the garden and was immediately offered a guided tour by a charming staff member which I hugely enjoyed. Birds are my great passion and I had a wonderful couple of hours from dawn, sitting on the balcony of our suite just watching and listening. Pure magic!

I love this as an alternative to the beach when in the south. Set on a working tea estate, the surroundings are lush and green and the villa itself brings the outside in, with the suites circling the central al fresco pool and dining pavilion. It makes a great romantic retreat and if you don’t have time to head to the hill country, you’ll get your fix of Ceylon’s most famous export here.
