Galle: Local Cricket Experience
It’s hard to ignore the passion for cricket as you travel around Sri Lanka – in every village, side street and city there are locals with bat and ball in hand. We invite you to take part in a friendly cricket match in Galle Fort, joining a team of locals.

If you ask any Sri Lankan about cricket, expect to see their eyes light up with enthusiasm about the best match they’ve ever seen, or the moment they hit a game-changing over. It is bordering on a religion here, and a source of great passion and pride. Every evening, you’ll find young people gathering in the streets or bastions of Galle Fort for a friendly run-around with bat and ball.
And now you are invited to join in! Whether you have played cricket all your life, not played since school, or never picked up a cricket bat, this is a fun way to be a part of a deeplycherished aspect of Sri Lanka’s culture. Your host grew up in the fort; you couldn’t have a better guide to share insights into life in Galle, as well as a bit of friendly banter with the team. He is, unsurprisingly, also a keen cricketer, and in his youth ran three laps around the fort to warm up before these friendly matches (we won’t ask you to do the same!).
You’ll join a team of young men aged 18+, with six per side, for a friendly match of five overs each side. The atmosphere is relaxed, friendly and fun. Leave your cricket whites at home, this is a casual friendly match – shorts and t-shirts are more the order of the day. All necessary equipment are provided.
