From May to August the Yala monsoon brings rain to the island’s southwestern half. The southwest has the highest rainfall – up to 4000mm a year. There is also an inter-monsoonal period in October and November when rain can occur in many parts of the island. Colombo and the low-lying coastal regions have an average temperature of 27°C. The sea stays at around 27°C all year. Climatically speaking, the driest (and best) seasons in Sri Lanka are from December to March for the west and south coasts.

Kumu Beach is a chic, modern boutique hotel close to Balapitiya Beach on Sri Lanka's south west coast. A short distance from Galle and close to Bentota and Hikkaduwa, there are just ten rooms and suites here, making for a relaxing and stylish stay.
Kumu Beach stands elevated overlooking the rugged Balapitiya beach, just two and a half hours from the airport. Here enjoy some beach time either at the start or end of a tour through this glistening teardrop isle.
Laze by the pool overlooking the sandy shores of blissful Balapitiya, one of Sri Lanka's quieter coastal towns. A small fishing village, the area is flanked by beautiful golden beaches. Kumu Beach sits on a lovely stretch looking out to the Indian Ocean. Although the beach is not swimmable, you are just a short distance from Ambalangoda, a great spot for surfing and swimming.
Dining at Kumu Beach is very relaxed and comprises a fusion of both local and western dishes. The hotel's seaside location means fresh seafood is always in abundance, so make sure you sample the catch of the day on the sea view dining deck.
Other facilities at the hotel include a 23m infinity pool and a large lawn with plenty of places to sit and unwind with a cocktail. When not lazing by the pool, we can also arrange excursions into Galle, Bentota or further afield.
There are 10 different rooms and suites at Kumu Beach, all sea facing and with plenty of space to unwind. The suites and double bedrooms all benefit from balconies or terraces.
Children are welcome at Kumu Beach and an extra bed can also easily be accommodated in an Oceanview Suite. Please note however there are no interconnecting rooms at the hotel.
Dining is an informal affair. Enjoy seafood barbecues, a fusion of international and Sri Lankan cuisine prepared by the expert chef. As the sister property of The Wallawwa and The Fort Bazaar, you can expect great food here.
During your stay at Kumu Beach, relax by the pool, take a stroll along the beach or head to nearby Ambalangoda where you can visit the mask museum or enjoy swimming on the beach. Further afield, Galle is an hour's drive away. Wander around the Fort and get lost in the history of this fascinating place.
