Nestled amongst acres of beautifully manicured gardens, this antique colonial manor house, or Wallawwa, is now the home of Sri Lanka’s most exciting boutique hotel. This old and new concept provides guests with unrivalled setting and style just 20-minutes from the airport and the hustle and bustle of Colombo. Strategically located close to the Dambulla, Kandy & Galle highways, the Wallawwa remains entirely secluded. The Wallawwa is bringing new style to the concept of airport hotels. Heading down a small side street from a busy main town you will be stunned by this little tropical oasis hidden away. Only 30 minutes from the airport this hotel not only offers convenience but is a great addition to any itinerary to give that much needed down time before you hop on a plane or start on your journey through Sri Lanka. With a large pool and great outdoor space this is a great place for kids to run around and explore.

The Wallawwa is a beautiful, boutique property that happens to also be 15 minutes from the airport! When you arrive you get a true sense of calm, no outside noise, just the sound of the birds and the trees. The grounds are fantastic, the swimming pool area is beautiful and the rooms are all luxurious and spacious. There's also a lovely spa, herb garden, library, study and this all come with service with a huge smile! It's a really lovely place to start or end your trip and don't be afraid to book in more than one night, there's plenty to keep you busy at the hotel or in the surrounding area!

After a short, but uncomfortable flight from Singapore, I landed in Colombo Airport, and got whisked off to The Wallawwa as I wanted to keep my transfer time down to a minimum. With its ideal location, The Wallawwa is the perfect haven to retreat to at the beginning or the end of one's trip. I had only just started my love affair with Sri Lanka, and in all honesty I was more excited about other parts of my adventure, as I'd seen this as just a stop off as a result of my flight time. Oh how I was wrong! From the moment you arrive down the charming little lane, that leads you to The Wallawwa, you get a total sense of utter charm, understated style and total serenity. The rooms are spacious and stylish, the gardens are beautiful and the swimming pool is idyllic to relax by after a busy afternoon tuk-tuking around Colombo! I could have stayed for many more nights, and am already looking forward to returning to make the most out of this hidden gem!

After arriving in Colombo from my long flight I was pleasantly surprised by the swift journey from the airport to the oasis of calm that is The Wallawwa. With well-appointed and spacious rooms and a good selection of places to escape to in the gardens it is the perfect retreat to escape to before or after a flight. There is an emphasis on sustainability here and the gorgeous garden fuels a kitchen that offers superb cuisine. Even though The Wallawwa was the first hotel I saw on my visit to Sri Lanka, it remains a firm favorite of mine!

Although mainly used as a stop off point on arrival or on the way to the airport due to its close proximity, this was one of my favorite boutique hotels and if you have the time its certainly worth the visit. The spa is really good value and the food is amazing.

The Wallawwa is a lovingly resorted manor house filled with character and charm. After escaping the hustle and bustle of Colombo it was the ideal escape where I was welcomed with calm and tranquillity. The gardens were beautifully manicured and extensive and the pool was a great place to relax of an afternoon. I particularly loved the food which offered an array of Sri Lankan curries which were accompanied by several vegetable dishes to ensure you taste the best of Sri Lanka. It was the perfect introduction to the country.

The Wallawwa is a lovely boutique hotel only 15 minutes from the airport. As such most people spend their first night here, and it is the best place to unwind. Make sure you check out their amazing vegetable garden, which Nimal has been carefully cultivating for the last 16 months. All the fresh fruit and veg ground here, finds itself onto your plate at their only restaurant - it is delicious.

The Wallawwa is the most beautiful 'airport' hotel, but with so much more to offer than just an overnight destination. Located just 20 minutes from the airport and set in beautiful gardens, it feels intimate. The service is superb and the rooms spacious with fabulous bathrooms. Don't make the mistake of just spending one night here - almost everyone regrets it! You can spend time relaxing on the lawn with a book or playing croquet, swimming in the pool or doing cultural tours nearby to places like the local cigar factory.

They’ve got it absolutely right here, rather than spend the beginning or end of your vacation in a grotty airport hotel, The Wallawwa allows you to do so in the style to which you will have or will become accustomed to during your trip through Sri Lanka. The rooms are stylish with huge impressive shower rooms, the food is excellent with a range of seasonal daily specials as well as an excellent international menu. The gardens are stunning and the pool very pretty, ideal for refreshing yourself after a long flight. They also have an impressive three room spa which could rival many here in Sri Lanka. It almost seems a shame to waste this as a stopover for one night, many longer stay hotels could learn a thing or two from The Wallawwa and it’s team of excellent staff.
