Average time to visit
The best time to visit the Colca Canyon is usually during the dry season, May through November: The Colca Valley is lush and green just after the heavy rains from January to March. Though sunny during the day, it can also get quite cold (below freezing) at night so make sure to pack some warm clothing.
If you intend to do some river rafting, the best time to go is during the raining season, when the river is at its highest (January through April).
To start planning your vacation to Colca Lodge Spa and Hot Springs
The Colca Lodge is a rustic-style lodge set at 3,250 meters above sea level and 3 hours from the city of Arequipa in the heart of Peru's famous Colca Valley amongst ancient Inca terraces and overlooking the Colca River with its thermal springs.
The construction of the lodge was inspired by Incan architecture and it is built almost entirely of stone, mud bricks and thatch.
The rooms are rustic in style with thatched roofs, adobe walls and simple in design yet cosy and are adorned with local handicrafts. The lodge is very eco-friendly; bathrooms are supplied with hot water from solar panels and they are currently implementing an ecological heating system which uses the geothermal energy sourced on site.
Guests can relax in the lounge by the fireplace, on the terrace or at the lodges own thermal springs, whose water comes from volcanic sources. Wallow in the thermal baths at night under the bright starry Andean sky. There is a fantastic spa offering a variety of massages and facial treatments and three great restaurants two of which serve Alpandina cuisine, a delicious fusion of Andean and alpine techniques.
For something more active there are short walks to nearby ruins, riding, mountain biking and white-water rafting. The Colca Canyon is reportedly the deepest in the world, thought to be twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in the USA. Another highlight is the sightings of Andean condors at close range as they float on the rising thermals.
Colca Lodge offers 45 rooms: 27 Standard, 15 Quadruple, two Suites and one Bridal suite which are simple in design yet cosy. Expect an authentic Incan experience with adobe walls, thatched roofs and ancient handicrafts.
Children are welcomed but there are no specific facilities. Children will love the thermal springs, walks to the nearby Incan ruins, horse riding though the rigged mountain landscape and assured sightings of the graceful Andean Condor, the largest flying bird of the western hemisphere.
The Colca Lodge features three restaurants two of which serve Alpandina cuisine, a delicious fusion of Andean and alpine techniques, two bars, and hot-spring Eco-spa offering a variety of massages and facial treatments.
Activities at the lodge include tours of the surrounding area, (visits to the ruins at Uyo Uyo and the Colcas), horseback riding, mountain biking, and catching a glimpse of the western hemisphere's largest flying bird, the Andean Condor. One can also go trekking along the Colca Canyon which is reportedly the deepest in the world, thought to be twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in the USA.

The Colca Lodge is one of the most serene hotels that exists in Peru. Located just on the river bank of the Colca River, not only does this hotel offer beautiful views of Colca Valley, but it is also home to private thermal hot springs. These springs are the ideal place to unwind after a long day seeing condors or visiting pre-Incan ruins. The Colca Lodge is the perfect place for a Peruvian getaway.

Colca Lodge Spa & hot springs has a beautiful setting on the banks of the Colca River, surrounded by traditional farmland - don't be surprised to see local ladies herding their sheep, donkeys and oxen along the roads. Apart from the attraction of the epic Colca Canyon which is best appreciated from the Condor viewing point a 90 minute drive from the Lodge, Colca Lodge is a great spot to relax, wallowing in its' hot springs, taking a massage in the spa, paying a visit to the Alpaca Ranch where they have a mixture of comical alpaca and llama breeds. There are bikes to borrow, or you can hike to the local village Yanque or to pre-Inca ruins at Uyo Uyo or for longer hikes there are full day hikes into and around the Colca Canyon. The new Junior suites are ideal for couples and some of the rooms can fit a family of four comfortably.
Colca Lodge, about 10km (6 miles) from Chivay, is beautifully situated across the river from Yanque and has one feature no other lodge can match: its own private thermal baths, carved in stone and secluded along the banks of the river. The continually expanding lodge is a very comfortable, eco-style hotel with adobe, stone, and thatched-roof architecture, and solar power. Its level of luxury is just a small step down from the Las Casitas del Colca, the top choice in the region (although those hot springs make it a close call). The views of the valley are excellent from nearly everywhere. The hotel also has a sophisticated lodge-style restaurant serving fairly expensive lunches and dinners.
