Any trip to Aurland wouldn't be complete without a visit to Flåm to ride the steep Flåmsbana Railway, ranked as ”the most beautiful railway in the world” by Lonely Planet. The journey takes you from Flam to Myrdal where coffee and delicious homemade pancakes await at Café Rallaren!
Flåmsbana is one of the steepest train lines in the world on normal tracks, where almost 80% of the journey has a gradient of 5.5%. The train journey takes you through some of Norway's most stunning natural beauty, with steep mountains, plunging waterfalls and endless breathtaking views.
Over the course of an hour you will climb from sea level at Sognefjord in Flåm to the Myrdal mountain station on Hardangervidda, 863 meters above sea level.
Myrdal is also a station on the Bergen railway so you can catch trains to take you onwards to Oslo and Bergen.
