Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
Summer and winter in Oslo are polar opposites; in the summer it hardly gets dark and the weather is very warm and pleasant with sunshine continuously both day and night! There is more chance of rain in the spring and summer season but the sun is a more regular occurrence.
Winter in Norway is much colder and Oslo will be transformed into a snowy winter wonderland. Take warm clothes and there isn't anything to stop you carrying on with your vacation with relative ease and comfort. Bear in mind it is dark a lot of the day as well as night.

Description
Centrally located in a vibrant and artistic neighborhood, Amerikalinjen is in the perfect location to explore Oslo. This luxury hotel is set in a landmark building with a contemporary style and fantastic bars and restaurants.
Built in 1919 the building was once the headquarters of the Norwegian American Line, who provided the opportunity for Norwegians to travel to America by boat, linking Norway to the ' New Western world'. Following an extensive restoration, the building has maintained original features such as the historic staircases, tiles and the wooden elevator casing.
The spacious hotel rooms are designed in a contemporary style with high ceilings and subtle touches of memorabilia documenting the history of the Norwegian American Line, such as mapped-out routes and departure lists, so that guests can get a feel for what the building was once used for. Each room has a bright and airy en-suite bathroom with rain showers and some with a separate bath.
There are plenty of areas to relax at Amerikalinjen with a coffee and a book, in particular the library which is set up to replicate the common areas on board a ship, with plenty of information to read in to the fascinating history.
The hotel offers a number of different dining options; the main restaurant Atlas Brasserie, Haven, an all-seasons green garden in the center of the hotel, Pier 42, the cocktail bar and finally the jazz club, Gustav, which is open every Friday night and is popular with both guests and locals, hosting live music and dancing.
Accommodation
Amerikalinjen has 122 rooms and suites. They are modern in style and offer a range of different views, the best of which are out across the city. Interconnecting options are possible and all rooms contain double beds but a Hollywood twin can be made up as an option.
Extra beds can also be added from Deluxe Rooms upwards.
Childcare
Children are welcome at Amerikalinjen, however there are no specific childcare facilities.
Facilities
A fitness room and relaxing area with heated stone beds, a sauna and rain showers allows guests to unwind after a day of exploring the city. Massages can also be arranged in your room if you would like a treatment.
As well as the all-day dining brasserie and café, Atlas, there is a cocktail bar and jazz club.
Activities
From the hotel you can easily get around the city on foot or take the local trams and buses, which are simple to navigate. A stone’s throw from the train station, the hotel is perfect for guests heading north to take the famous Flam railway. The iconic opera house is just a 5-minute walk away and is a great place to go for a stroll and view the city from a height out across the water.
Whether you are staying in winter or summer, there is plenty to do just a short journey out of the city, from cross country skiing to hiking and even swimming in the sea if you a brave enough to brace for the chilly water!Reviews

The Norwegian/American Line history behind the hotel is fascinating and the original features of the lift and walls in the lounge area are lovely touches. It is a great place to stay within easy reach of the main city center and restaurants. There is a wonderful combination of Norwegian and American influences both in the food and design. It is popular with the locals for the Jazz club on a Friday night and the brilliant brunch on weekends as well as the cocktail bar, Pier 42

I love the combination of old and new at Amerikalinen, where original artifacts from the cruise line are displayed in the library yet the rooms have all the modern touches and comforts you could want. While it lacks the beautiful water views of other hotels, you are in a great location at the foot of the main shopping street and within easy walking distance of most of the main attractions. A really atmospheric new hotel on the scene in Oslo!
