The perfect escape from Mexico City's urban sprawl, Chapultepec Park is vast, with winding pathways, picturesque lakes and an impressive castle which dominates Chapultepec Hill. Numerous museums sit within the park and offer plenty to explore.
Make your way up the hill for a guided visit of Chapultepec Castle and National Museum of History for a window into the past of Mexico's presidents and emperors who have left a permanent mark on the nation, right from the days of Tenochitlan. Wander the corridors and gardens which are overflowing with history as the stories are brought to life by your historian guide.
Next stop is the Rufino Tamayo Art Museum, located within the park and housing a fantastic collection of the artists' work, as well as temporary exhibits by contemporary artists. You will then have free time to explore the park at your leisure, wandering its leafy paths or visiting more of the fascinating museums. Permanent exhibitions of photography, sculpture and paintings line the park's perimeters and classic pieces by the likes of Diego Rivera, David Siqueiros, Vincente Rojo, Frida Kahlo and Olga Costa can be found in the Museum of Modern Art which is highly recommended for a visit.
