Tropical climate and the driest months to visit are December to March. November and April are also good months to visit and you may get some rain, although it is outside of the monsoon season. May to October is the monsoon with downpours occurring once or twice a day, rather than constant rain.
Tubkaak is a boutique hotel located in Krabi on a wonderful stretch of beach overlooking the Hong Islands and Koh Yao Noi beyond. With just 61 rooms and suites, Tubkaak retains a distinctly Thai feel with a delightful low-key, informal atmosphere.
Located about 60 minutes from Krabi, and 30 minutes from Ao Nang, Tubkaak looks out onto the dramatic range of islands known as the Koh Hong Krabi Archipelago. To the rear of the hotel rises the dramatic Hang Nak Mountain. Tubkaak is therefore a quiet retreat away from the hubbub of the busier beaches in the Krabi area and is ideal for those who want to get away from it all and experience an informal beach break with stunning views. Also the sun sets directly out to sea, so it magical to wander there in the evening and have a drink as the sun slowly descends.
Tubkaak has a distinctly Thai feel, and each villa contains four rooms with Deluxe Rooms upstairs and Superior Rooms downstairs. When they built the hotel, no trees were felled and therefore it produces a lush jungle effect as you walk around. These rooms generally surround the main pool located within the resort and do not have sea views. Most rooms have a private balcony or terrace as well as a sunken bathtub and separate rain forest shower in the indoor/outdoor bathroom. Rooms are tastefully designed, keeping in tradition with its Thai feel. We generally advise to use Deluxe Rooms and up as the Superior Rooms can feel a little small.
Moving up, the Sea View Villas offer ample space and a private terrace overlooking the Andaman Sea. For those wanting even more room, there are a range of suites offering one and two bedroom options, most with private pools looking out to sea. They have recently completed another selection of Pool Villas, craftily designed to fit in with their natural surroundings, some of which are beach front. What we love are the little touches - in all the rooms they provide a beach bag with towels, flip flops and cold drinks to take to the beach.
The hotel has two restaurants, both located overlooking the beach. The Arundina offers classic Thai dishes and also has a delightful upper deck. The Di Mare restaurant provides excellent Italian fare.
Tubkaak also comes with a range of facilities to keep you occupied from their L'Escape Spa, library and gym. A range of activities are on offer such as mountain biking, sea kayaking and day trips to remote islands. For those wanting to learn a little Thai cookery, they offer lessons on site.
In short, Tubkaak is a laid-back and low key hotel, ideal for those who don't fancy all the bells and whistles you might get at the more traditional 5* hotels - and perfect for 4-5 days after exploring other parts of Thailand or Indo-China. In terms of service, it is friendly and charming, but do note that they will not have been through hotel-school so don't expect to be waited on hand and foot. It is for this very reason that Tubkaak works so well - a little gem tucked away and very different to some of its more stylish, yet less atmospheric competitors.
Tubkaak has 42 rooms and suites and another 19 private pool villas. All rooms come with an outdoor sunken bathtub with separate shower, satellite TV, DVD player, mini-bar, Nespresso Coffee Machine & a beach bag with amenities. The Superior and Deluxe Rooms are all located within the gardens and come in pods of four, many overlooking the main pool. Superior Rooms are downstairs, and offer a terrace. The Deluxe Rooms are upstairs with a balcony. The Seaview Rooms are larger and have a lounge area and a terrace with seaviews. The Laurel Suite has ample living space, and a larger sea-facing terrace - but no private pool. The Haven Suite is a huge One-Bed Villa with vast ceilings and a sea-facing private pool. There are 4 Beach Pool Villas all with pools overlooking the beach. The brand new Premier Pool Villas are located throughout the grounds and are more private than the Beach Pool Villas, utilising top-notch design and private pools. The Tubkaak Suite is a two-Bedroom option, ideal for families and also comes with a private pool and dining area. Do note that pools on beach are not that private as guests can walk past you - if you want privacy opt for the Premier Pool Villa.
The ground floor Superior room is convenient to get to the free-form swimming pool, Jacuzzi and exotic gardens and features a small terrace to enjoy the tropical surroundings. The room is 40sqm.
The Deluxe rooms can be found on the upper floor of the villas and feature characteristic slanted roofs for a cosy hideaway feeling. The wooden balcony affords charming views over the pool and gardens.
With views over the Arabian Sea, the Seaview room is shaded by tropical trees. With 60 sqm of space there are plenty of options for relaxation with the swinging hammock, comfortable daybed, or outdoor bathtub, ideal for honeymooners.
The Laurel Suite has 120 sqm of space including a separate living area and bedroom. Enjoy the sea views from the large terrace.
This two-bedroom private villa has a prime beachfront position shaded by mature trees and exotic gardens. The infinity-edge swimming pool blends with the Andaman Sea, perfect to take a swim, bubble in the Jacuzzi or lie back on the loungers. The 198 sqm interiors include a private sauna and an open plan lounge and dining area.
Tubkaak's signature Haven Suite is a 170 sqm one-bedroom villa with a high vaulted ceiling, walls of glass to appreciate the outdoor nature, and elegant contemporary Thai furnishings. It has subdued colors, natural materials, vast living space, outdoor sunken bathtub and a private pool with Jacuzzi.
|Beach Pool Villa||
There are four stand alone pool villas dotted along the beachfront, only steps away from the gentle waves of the Andaman Sea. The open design of these one-bedroom 110-120 sqm villas allow guests to enjoy maximum exposure to sea views while lounging by the pool or in the elegant interiors. Special features include décor with pastel shades, indoor and outdoor showers and a private pool with Jacuzzi.
|Premier Pool Villa||
Surrounded by flourishing gardens and mature shady trees, the 95-110 sqm premier pool villas offer ultimate privacy. The well-thought out interiors are spacious and highly functional featuring luxury amenities and a bathroom with outdoor sunken bathtub and shower. The local design elements including the large graphic headboard, high vaulted ceiling, sloping roof, natural materials create the feeling of vernacular architecture of Southern Thailand.
Tubkaak isn't set up for children as there are no interconnecting rooms, and only one two-Bedroom Suite (Tubkaak Suite). There is a small kids' pool, but no kids club, so ideally Tubkaak is better suited for older children who can create their own sense of fun. They often have embargoes on children under 10.
Tubkaak has a range of facilities including two restaurants, a spa, library and gym. The Arundina Restaurant is located on the beach front and has a lower and upper deck and provides Thai food. The Di Mare is also beside the sea and specializes in Italian food. The spa is located within the gardens and blends traditional Oriental and Thai therapies and has three treatment rooms and a Jacuzzi plunge pool. For guests wanting a more extensive spa, there is one located down the beach at the Tubkaak Krabi Spa Hotel and has steam and sauna facilities. There is also a small gym and a library with a selection of books. There is also complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the resort.
You will be provided with a complimentary mountain bike for exploring the local area, and kayaking is also complimentary. You can choose from a selection of DVDs. Day trips can be made to the small Hong Islands, or longer visits to Phi Phi. Shuttles run into Ao Nang (chargeable).

The Tubkaak is a nice little tropical getaway boutique hotel that really does feel like a reprieve from the crowds of tourists. The beachside views of the surrounding karst islands really are quite spectacular, and the restaurants face directly towards the sunset. Everything is very clean and up to date feeling. The food is quite good, and the staff are extremely personable and attentive. An excellent choice!

Tubkaak has a very natural concept, they have tried to retain the original natural elements as much as possible which gives it a nice vibe. But this does mean that rooms are a bit smaller because they haven't wanted to cut trees down. Bearing this in mind, it is better to opt for the Sea View Room or the Beach Pool Villa to make the most of the resort. The beach is lovely and sandy, however being tidal it has been deemed more practical to put bean bags on the beach (more mobile), but they are very comfy and easy to relax on. There is a fabulous pool with lots of sunbeds for sun worshippers!

Krabi, West coast beaches and islands, Thailand
Tubkaak is located about 30 minutes from Krabi Airport. It is on a stretch of beach with 3-4 other hotels, yet you won't find little beach bars or local restaurants, so it is quite untouristy.
