Kicheche Mara Camp is closed in April and May.
The only time to avoid Kenya is during the long rainy season in April and May. November is considered the short rainy season, however, these are less predictable and are much lighter. The best time of year to visit the Maasai Mara is during the Great Wildebeest Migration which tends to pass through the Mara between mid July to late October.

Kicheche Mara Camp is situated in Acacia Valley in Mara North Conservancy, on the edge of the famous Maasai Mara and is a classic, intimate bush camp with its eight safari tents. This camp is perfect for guests looking for a pure wilderness experience.
Hidden in a grove of wild olive trees in the heart of the Mara North Conservancy, a prime wildlife area, the eight safari tents at Kicheche Mara Camp have been designed to have minimal impact on the local environment. The simple but comfortable safari tents are carefully positioned so that they blend into the surrounding bush, and numerous animals wander through the camp totally unperturbed.
The central lounge of the camp is made up of spacious Nyati tents that house a library and an area ideal for relaxing. Most meals are taken alfresco, overlooking the plains, and the food is a combination of African and international dishes.
Game driving is available throughout the area and each day you will chat about the possible activities with your experienced guide. Trips to the local Maasai villages are on offer for those interested in Maasai culture. There are a number of escorted nature walks available from the camp. All walks are escorted by a Kicheche guide with a radio, and an armed ranger. The camp can also arrange an overnight in a fly camp on request. Guests leave on foot in the afternoon from camp and walk to a bush camp that has been set up consisting of dome tents and a single bush shower and toilet. Upon arrival, guests can enjoy drinks around the fire and a three course meal for dinner. Guests depart for the Bush camp on foot, shortly after breakfast, the following morning.
The accommodation at Kicheche Mara Camp is in spacious, fully insect-proof Meru style tents (eight twins/doubles). All the tents have cedar beds, linen, bedside tables, luggage racks and rugs. Bathrooms are en-suite and are equipped with a dresser, shower and flushing toilet and running water.
Triple tents and family tents (one double & two single beds) are available on request.
Kicheche Mara Camp welcomes children but is not suited to very young children as the camp is unfenced and for this reason children must be supervised at all times. Meals can be tailored to suit and earlier meal times can be arranged where necessary. Babysitting can be organized for those that require it.
There is a camp souvenir shop with a selection of Maasai crafts, clothing, maps and miscellaneous items. Guests gather around the campfire for a pre-dinner drink or a hot drink before the morning drive. Dinner is served by candlelight al-fresco or in the dining tent. The Camp also has a reference library in the lounge tent, which has an excellent selection of books.
Game driving is available throughout the area and your guide will tailor activities to suit your requirements. Trips to the local Maasai villages are on offer for those interested in Kenya's unique culture. It is possible to visit Aitong town (market day Thursday) or the local nursery school supported by the camp's Community Project.
There are a number of escorted nature walks available from the camp. All walks are escorted by a Kicheche guide with a radio, and an armed ranger.
