Best time to Visit
Good time to visit
Average time to visit
The only time to avoid Kenya is during the long rainy season in April and May. November is considered the short rainy season, however, these are less predictable and are much lighter. The best time of year to visit the Maasai Mara is during the Great Wildebeest Migration which tends to pass through the Mara between mid July to late October but game-viewing is great year-round as there is abundant resident wildlife.

Description
A spectacular location perched on the edge of the escarpment, Angama has unrivalled views over the Maasai Mara from its glass-fronted suites. A super-modern and luxurious camp, owned and managed by industry expert Nicky Fitzgerald.
Angama Mara offers a new kind of safari experience. Named after the Swahili word which translates as "hanging in mid-air", each of the glass-fronted suites is suspended on the edge of the Mara escarpment overlooking the savannah plains beyond. Wake in the morning to hot air balloons rising up to your eye-level for a dramatic start to the day!
Angama is split into two camps, each with fifteen spectacular suites, each with two family tents. The camps sit on two of three kopjes on the escarpment edge, retaining the third kopje for picnics and sundowners. This third kopje was the location for key scenes in Out of Africa, ideal for those wanting to live the romance of this iconic safari film.
Each suite hangs suspended off the edge of the escarpment, with a 10 meter wide floor-to-ceiling glass wall to the front of the suite to give 180 degree views. With polished wooden floors and modern furnishings, this is far from a rustic safari camp and offers something quite unique in the Mara.
The owner-manager Nicky Fitzgerald (and her late husband Steve) built and ran more than 60 beautiful safari lodges and camps across the African continent before creating what is today Angama Mara. You can be assured of superb hosting, attention to detail and superb guides to ensure you get the most out of your safari experience here.
There is a main mess area where you can relax during the heat of the day, a swimming pool and a fitness center. Massages are available in the comfort of your suite, too.
Activities
Activities focus on game-drives which are the best way to explore the wide-sweeping savannahs of the Maasai Mara. Night drives after a sundowner drink are available, and walking safaris on the escarpment, ideal for taking in the stunning scenery. Picnics on the kopje where Out of Africa was filmed is a real treat, and something we'd highly recommend. Other activities include community visits to learn more about Maasai culture and traditions, and hot air-ballooning - but do note, these are on request and incur an additional charge.

This spectacular camp out does itself in every single way; the food, the location, the rooms and above all the service. The staff here at Angama Mara go above and beyond for you and are really experts in what they do, you will have a gin and tonic in your hand before you released you wanted one. The camp is split in to two which gives it an incredibly private feel but you can walk freely from one to the other to go to the photography studio, beading workshop, gym or swimming pool. They have built a new road which allows incredibly easy, smooth access on to the plains below allowing you to quickly make the most of your wonderful position in the Mara and explore until your hearts content for the day.

There is no other way to describe Angama than breath-taking! The lodge, perched on the escarpment, must have one of the best views in the whole of Africa, taking in the vast plains of the Mara right across to the Serengeti. It's almost too much to take in when you first see it, and you can understand why most of Angama's guests spend their time on the viewing deck, gazing into the horizon. The lodge follows through with its promises too - from the impeccable yet discreet service, the beautifully designed rooms, the excellent guiding and the delicious food - Angama delivers on every level. The drive down into the Mara for your game drives is full of surprises too - from the families of elephant laboriously making their way up the steep slopes, to colorful birds - including the rare Narina trogon - hiding in the forests. Angama is the perfect luxury lodge from which to explore this beautiful part of the Mara.
