Highlights
Unique position on the edge of the Oloololo escarpment overlooking the Maasai Mara
Suites are suspended on the edge of the escarpment to give the sensation of floating
Named after the Maasai word 'angama' meaning 'hanging in the air'
Wall to wall glass fronted suites offer unparalleled 180 degree views of the Mara
Angama Mara offers a new kind of safari experience. Named after the Swahili word which translates as "hanging in mid-air", each of the glass-fronted suites is suspended on the edge of the Mara escarpment overlooking the savannah plains beyond. Wake in the morning to hot air balloons rising up to your eye-level for a dramatic start to the day!
Angama is split into two camps, each with fifteen spectacular suites, each with two family tents. The camps sit on two of three kopjes on the escarpment edge, retaining the third kopje for picnics and sundowners. This third kopje was the location for key scenes in Out of Africa, ideal for those wanting to live the romance of this iconic safari film.
Each suite hangs suspended off the edge of the escarpment, with a 10 meter wide floor-to-ceiling glass wall to the front of the suite to give 180 degree views. With polished wooden floors and modern furnishings, this is far from a rustic safari camp and offers something quite unique in the Mara.
The owner-manager Nicky Fitzgerald (and her late husband Steve) built and ran more than 60 beautiful safari lodges and camps across the African continent before creating what is today Angama Mara. You can be assured of superb hosting, attention to detail and superb guides to ensure you get the most out of your safari experience here.
There is a main mess area where you can relax during the heat of the day, a swimming pool and a fitness center. Massages are available in the comfort of your suite, too.
